Jetpack can’t connect to my website

  • Unknown's avatar

Jetpack provides overall stats for my website (rbergson.org), but when I go to detailed stats, I get an error message, saying it can’t find my website. The troubleshooting steps provided by Jetpack produce the same results.

    WP.com: Unknown
    Jetpack: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hello there,

rbergson.org is not hosted with WordPress.com, so you would be logging into WordPress.com to view stats on the site (unless it’s using Jetpack).

To check, are you able to see stats via rbergson.org/wp-admin/ ?

The site is using Jetpack for stats.  That is the error message I get, “Jetpack cannot connect to your domain.”  I can see overall Jetpack stats…like the total number of views per day, which indicates to me Jetpack can connect to my website.  However, when I go to the list of posts to see how many views there have been of that particular post, I get the error message “cannot connect.”  I don’t understand why I can see stats for total views of my website…but not the number of views for a particular blog post…and why I connect in the first instance but get an error message in the second.

When I follow Jetpack’s instructions on how to fix the problem…I just get the same error message…cannot find website.

    Sincerely,
    Roger Bergson

  • Hello there,

Looking at Jetpack debug: https://jptools.wordpress.com/debug/?url=rbergson.org it looks like there may be something awry with the SSL certificate of the domain.

Are you able to confirm with the hosting provider that all is well with that please?

The SSL certificate for rbergson.org in the HostGator website says the domain is only HTTP, but the SSL scan on SiteLock says, “Your secure website has been confirmed.”

  • I think the best next step is to present the conflicting information to your hosting provider and ask them for clarification on what the current status of the SSL is. This isn’t something we can do from our end. Once the SSL is sorted things should go back to normal. Of course you’re welcome to reach out if ongoing help is needed.
