Jetpack consistently ignoring custom tweet, using title instead
-
Hi! For the last 4-5 posts I’ve published, the custom tweet that I’ve written for each post has been ignored. Instead, just the title of and link to the post has gone out on Twitter. This has been happening since switching to the new block editor. I did not have the issue in the years previous to this update.
I’ve found many posts on different forums by people with the same issue, yet none seem to conclude with a solution. Is there a fix for this?

Hi there,
Can you provide an example of a post where you added a custom message and the corresponding tweet?
You are following the directions for custom messages as it is provided in our support page here?:
https://wordpress.com/support/publicize/#using-publicize
Let me know, thanks!

One example above. For other posts, I deleted the automatic tweets as they did not include the custom messaging that I wrote, and replaced them with new tweets via the Twitter app.

Thank you,
To confirm, you are adding the custom message as it appears here?:
Since I cannot see the original tweets, I wanted to see if you can post in this thread next time you’re about to publish your next post? That way, we can look at the draft, check the settings, and also see what appears on the tweet compared to what you added to the message. I’ll also look into this and touch base if there is a bug.
Thank you!

Yes, I see and have used that option successfully in the past. Using it now does not result in a custom message.

This has been happening since switching to the new block editor. I did not have the issue in the years previous to this update, during which the custom tweet functionality was sound and I was able to use it with zero issue.
I’ve not published a new post since initially posting this issue in this forum.

To clarify, you have removed the incorrect post on Twitter? It would help us to be able to see the tweet in it’s original form so we can take a closer look. Are you willing to leave one of those up (on Twitter) long enough for us to take a look?
Next time you publish a post and the custom message is not shared on Twitter, please let us know here and we can take a look before you delete it, thanks!

Please let me know once I can change it, it’s a professional account and I’d like to change it to the proper tweet ASAP.

Hi @vapidhexpot, thanks. I can see it just used the title of the post.
I’ve seen a few cases of this if the message is set immediately before the post is published.
With your next post, can you add the custom message, and then ensure the post has saved properly (pressing the save button and letting it finish saving – you can even add a space in the post if needed) before clicking publish?
Please report back with the results.
I’d like to confirm whether that’s the issue, or whether it’s something else.
