Jetpack Facebook widget

  • Unknown's avatar

    I have the Jetpack Facebook Likebox installed, but the “Facebook” words on my page are in black, whereas the “Twitter” (also Jetpack) bellow it is white, I’m trying to find in the editor or widgets how to make the “Facebook” words white, but I can’t find it anywhere, have you any idea how to make this seemingly simple fix?

    You can view it here: http://thetitancorps.com/?page_id=99

    I’d appreciate any help you can offer.

  • Hi William,

    That looks like it’s because the title of the Facebook widget (unlike the title of the other widgets) is a hyperlink. You can try the following CSS:

    media="screen"
    h2, h2 a {
    color: #fff;
    }

    Euello, thank you very much for getting back to me. Can you please give me “WordPress for dummies” version of instructions, starting where on the dashboard do I go to find the proper location to enter the code you sent me? I’m sorry I’m just not that skilled yet in WordPress to jump into CSS and copy and paste this code. Do I go: Dashboard – Appearance – Editor or is it under widgets or is it under plugins – editor? Please give me a step by step if you can. I was in Plugin – Editor and I found a “Jetpack” social media php plugin for FB, but I don’t see where to edit the hyper link to change the color. Again, I am sorry but if you can give me simple steps to follow I think I can get it. Thank you again!

  • Hi William –

    No problem. First, go to Jetpack->Jetpack in your Dashboard and find the Custom CSS module. If it has a blue ‘Activate’ button, click that to activate it. If no Activate button appears, it’s already activated and you don’t need to do anything there.

    Then, go to Appearance->Edit CSS. Copy and paste this into the box that appears there:

    media="screen"
    h2, h2 a {
    color: #fff;
    }

    You can either delete the default text that you see in the box, or you can paste the code underneath it, either way. Then, click ‘Save Stylesheet.’

    That’s it!

    Eurello, thank you again from getting back to me. I did as you said, went to Jetpack, the custom CSS was already active, so I went to appearance and edit CSS and pasted
    media=”screen”
    h2, h2 a {
    color: #fff;
    }
    Then saved it. If you look at my Facebook widget, it still is in black…

    Please let me know what went wrong : (
    Thank you.

  • Hi William,

    Hmm. Try this instead:

    .wtitle h2 a {
    color: #fff;
    }

    Unrelated question… I currently have the WP Simple Shopping cart, it has paypal working for me, but I have friends overseas interested in purchasing my book. I have a default shipping and handling fee of $8.00 set up for domestic orders, but if someone overseas orders the book I will loose a lot of money in shipping. Is there a widget or shopping cart that offers regional billing pulldown menus for people interested in ordering the book at check out? So if people in California order a book it will calculate shipping from my location to theres as well as people in London England for example… Someone told me to check out the WP eStore link: http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/ecommerce/wp-estore-documentation to try and accommodate this. I tried to set up my Paypal to calculate shipping, but Paypal isn’t working correctly with the WP easy shopping cart for shipping. You have been such a great help, I figured maybe you had some information that can help me set up a proper shopping cart to accommodate my various shipping needs. Thank you again!

  • Hi William,

    We can only really support the sites hosted here at WordPress.com and the Jetpack plugin specifically, but you can get recommendations on how to work around that in the support section for that plugin:
    http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/wordpress-simple-paypal-shopping-cart

    You can also get support for your WordPress site in general in the WordPress.org forums here:

    Thank you, can I post a new topic at wordpress.org? I cannot find a location to post a new topic. Does Jetpack offer any shopping cart options?

  • Hi William,

    No, there are no shopping cart options in Jetpack, only features available here at WordPress.com.

    Click on the forum you want to post in, and then there’s an ‘Add New’ button at the top. You will probably want to click the Register button at the top here and create a login for the WordPress.org forums if you don’t already have one:

    Thanks again,

    I have another CSS riddle for you…
    My current WP Shopping cart has a white headline:

    “Your Shopping Cart”

    But underneath it is a black “Your Shopping Cart” illegible on my background, just like Facebook was. In fact the shopping cart appears right above the FB link. Is there a simple CSS to turn these words to white, you may need to “add to cart” in order to see what I’m talking about, and no I’m not trying to sell you a book ; ) LOL. But when the item is in the cart the cart appears on the top right of the screen with the blacked out “Your Shopping Cart” under the cart… is there any CSS fix? http://thetitancorps.com/?page_id=99

    Thanks again

  • Hi William,

    Hmm, I don’t see that there. I’m afraid I can only provide support for the Jetpack plugin, but you can likely get help with this in that plugin’s support forum:

    Hi, I think this is jetpack related… I’m having problems with the “Publicize” feature on my wordpress blog…

    1. What is the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org? I have my website setup I believe via wordpress.org http://www.thetitancorps.com but is the blog hosted via wordpress.com or wordpress.org? I need to know how to edit and make changes to the blog and I don’t know if all the settings are in the wordpress.org dashboard or if some of them are in worpress.com

    2. My friend has his blog set up great, the blog page opens as the user clicks on it http://www.timeofthefaeries.com/newsupdates/ however mine displays differently, http://thetitancorps.com/2014/01/05/newsblog/ the page is closed unless someone clicks on the number bubble in the top right of the blog page. How do I get the blog to display open like my friends page?
    I think the Jetpack Publicize option is the right track, but I cannot get the Facebook posts to post on my wordpress blog. Furthermore, I cannot get the blog to display like my friends website.

  • Hi William,

    You can read more about the differences between the two here:
    http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/11/14/com-or-org/

    WordPress.com is a blogging platform with free hosting. “WordPress.org” is just sort of a shorthand for the site where you can download the free WordPress software that can be installed on any site. There is technically no “WordPress.org-hosted sites.” Your http://thetitancorps.com/ site is a site using WordPress that’s hosted with DreamHost.

    It looks like you’ve now figured out how to move your Blog off the front page of your site. This might help if you still are confused:
    Front Page

    You can read more about how to set up publicize here:
    http://jetpack.me/support/publicize/

    Publicize sends your blog posts to your Facebook, Twitter, etc. pages automatically when you post, not the other way around. Does this clear things up?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I believe so. Please clarify this with me, my wordpress site is hosted with dream host therefore it’s neither wordpress.com or wordpress.org? I’ve learned quiet a bit these past few weeks but I’m still confused about how the blog is managed and what the difference btw WP.com and .org are but I will read the link you sent me.

    As for the social media sharing, I believe i successfully set up the blog to share to all social media sites, but I cannot figure out the reverse; how to post in Facebook and have that Facebook post automatically post on my blog. My friend has his set up that way. Can this be managed in jetpack or elsewhere?

  • Hi William – Well, it’s WordPress.org, but “WordPress.org” is just a sort of shorthand for “self-hosted WordPress.”

    The link I sent should make this much more clear.

    There is no Jetpack feature that sends Facebook posts to post on your blogs, but there’s probably a plugin that does this:
    http://wordpress.org/plugins/
