Jetpack illegal under EU data protection law

    Dear ladies and gentleman,

as you know the EU data protection law is already implemented and violating it will soon be punished – and yes I’ve seen the article on it and tried searching the forums afterwards.
But the most important question has not yet been answered – or the forum search is not very effective in finding correlating threads.
Because right now Jetpack is illegal under EU law, at least that is the consensus of most bloggers and lawyers alike.
    The main problems are:
    – the affiliation with social media and statistic platforms, saving the information of a user’s visit on the blog without his/her knowledge and permission
    – the comment section
    – the statistics itself (for example right now Google Analytics is illegal, too)
    – the Brute Force mode is illegal as well, but it’s easy to deactivate, I know

I myself am no lawyer, therefore I don’t know if there are even more problems with Jetpack. All I know is that I would like to keep it because working around it does not only influence the WordPress App, but also slows down the blog and needs a LOT of work – because there are quite a lot of Plugins one has to install instead.

Therefore my question is: Will you try to make Jetpack legal in time for us to know if you do NOT succeed so we have enough time to look for alternatives?
And if you DO make Jetpack legal, could you give us a step by step instruction on how to change all settings to legal options?

Because right now the time is becoming short. The law was implemented years ago and we are still waiting for you (and other bloggers for Google) to give us the possibility to legally still use our blogs and websites. Right now the blogging world is beginning to panic.

    Thank you for every answer.

    Hi letemeatbooks,

We are actively working on implementation of these new regulations so we are in compliance when they come into effect. There is more information about Automattic and GDPR on this support page:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/automattic-gdpr/

This is all of the information we are able to provide you with at the moment but I’ve passed your concerns on to the Jetpack team.

    Thanks.
