Jetpack is disconnected, Jetpack dashboard is gone
-
Hi. We recently tried to migrate a replacement website from InstaWP to WordPress.com. It failed miserably. Now, my WordPress dashboard is saying that Jetpack is disconnected and I can’t restore the site.
There are a whole litany of other errors on the dashboard:
1) All my media are gone. (No longer displayed in the Dashboard.)
2) All my website pages are gone.
3) The Jetpack Dashboard menu option is gone.
4) The Installed Plugins option comes back with a 403-Forbidden error.
5) All my Users are gone.
6) The Settings/General page is inaccessible and flashing grey.
7) The WP Admin Dashboard link returns a 403-Forbidden error. So, I can’t reconnect or reinstall Jetpack, I can’t restore the website and now public access the the site is also returning a 403-Forbidden error. I’ve requested a restore of my sites plugins and themes twice, but nothing has changed. I requested help from Support as soon as the problem happened 3 days ago, but haven’t heard back from anyone.
I’ve also tried uploading the Jetpack folder from a local backup via sFTP, but that fails with a “No such file or directory” error. I’ve uploaded the Jetpack folder to a new ‘Jetpack-new’ folder, but deleting or renaming the old folder and renaming the new one to ‘Jetpack’ fails. I even tried ‘wp jetpack reset’ via SSH, but that also fails (with a ‘wp-config.php not found’ error when the file is clearly there!). I am well and truly pooched.
Can anyone here give me a hand or direction as to what to do to recover WP, Jetpack and the website? Any help would be tremendously appreciated!

One thing I haven’t tried is the ‘Reset your site’ option in ‘Settings’, but I suspect that I’d still have the Jetpack connection problem and I’m afraid that I might complicate the problem. And I’m not sure if the existing Jetpack backups will be retained. Thoughts?

I bit the bullet and reset the site. That brought all the WP and Jetpack functionality back. It turns out that all the Jetpack backups were retained and I successfully restored the site. Woohoo!

The rejoicing was short-lived. Jetpack can’t seem to retain its connection. Even after a complete site reset the error “Jetpack can’t communicate with your site because your site isn’t connected.” comes back. So I have no users and no pages. The Jetpack ‘Dashboard’ menu item is back, but it says that I cannot access the page. The good news is that I was able to restore the website, but I can’t edit it.
I’m still in need of any help and wisdom. -
The end of the story is that Jetpack Support re-connected Jetpack for me. Things are (mostly) back to normal.
