Jetpack now unable to connect to live site

My Publicize settings and subscriber posting emails are defunct. They had been active for years. I tried the reconnection method but Jetpack ‘could not communicate with your site’s XML-RPC URL’. I don’t use W3 cache or any caching plugin. My firewall (All in One) allows connecting to Jetpack via XML-RPC. Would especially hate to lose my subscriber list. I don’ t know what to do. Thx.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • https://www.535.artsouthend.com/ is not online.

Jetpack can only connect to publicly accessible sites.

I recommend contacting your hosting provider’s support about getting the site back online.

Thanks, but that is not the site in question. From the Jetpack tab in the WP site, I am told I am connected to Jetpack. (I have been for about 8 years.) However, I’m not really connected – no stats, subscribers, Publicize options.

If I click on “manage site connection”, all I can do is “disconnect”. If I do that, will I lose my subscriber list? After disconnecting I may not be able to connect again. :(

Again, this is the error I’m getting:

The Jetpack server could not communicate with your site’s XML-RPC URL.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks, but that is not the site in question

Can you please tell us the correct URL of the site you’re trying to connect? It’s impossible to help you if we don’t know what site you need help with.

The Jetpack server could not communicate with your site’s XML-RPC URL

That error would indicate there’s a problem with XML-RPC on your site. You’ll need to contact your hosting provider for help re-enabling that.

    Thanks for your reply.

    The affected site is:
    http://artistsunderthedome.org/malc/

I’ll try to get word to the host, as well. Perhaps some security feature has been added that I was unaware of. The owner has generously offered us free hosting but this seems important, to say the least.

  • I don’t see anything that would outright block us from communicating with your site, so maybe there’s just something corrupt in your settings.

Please try deleting Jetpack specifically from the Plugins section of your blog’s Dashboard: https://jetpack.com/support/reconnecting-reinstalling-jetpack/#reinstalling-jetpack

This will clear out Jetpack’s settings, and it should work properly after a reinstall.

Will do, thanks. Deleting and reinstalling will preserve my subscriber list?

  • Yes, that’s all stored on our end. :)

I did as instructed. All works fine. Many thanks.

I notice a new look and many new Jetpack features. :)
