Jetpack or Yoast for SEO

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!
This may be a basic question, but I’m confused. I bought the business plan for WordPress so SEO could be optimized. I think ‘Jetpack’ does this, is this the same thing as Yoast?

Or do I need to install another plugin for SEO? Can someone help?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, as a Business plan user you have access to direct support from Staff via the contact form at https://wordpress.com/help/contact when you are logged in to the username account that purchased the upgrade.

Even without plugins you have access to more SEO tools as a part of your upgrade. You can read about those tools here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/seo-tools/

If you want opinions about a particular plugin, you’ll likely do better to ask in the WordPress.org forums as those users have more experience with them than other WordPressdotcom users who cannot install or use additional 3rd party plugins.

  • Hi there,

WordPress.com’s built-in SEO that is available even to free WordPress.com sites is already among the best on the net, so you need neither the Business Plan, nor any plugins to have good SEO for your site. Everything that you get in Jetpack is part of every WordPress.com site by default.

    See:

    SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

And @justjennifer has linked to the doc that specifically covers the additional tools that’s available in the Business plan, again without installing any additional plugins.

As for which is best between Yoast and Jetpack I’m not able to answer you, as I’ve never used Yoast. But I’m sure if you ask in the self-hosted WordPress forums, or even just do a Google search, you’ll find plenty of opinions.

On another note, your Business Plan grants you access to live chat and priority email support. Did you see the notice to that effect when you tried to create this thread?

Thank you for the help. Just to clarify are the concept of Jetpack and other SEO plugins the same? I was reading and many articles said there were two recommended plugins for WordPress (Yoast and All in One SEO I think). I just don’t understand if Jetpack is the same concept as this. SEO is new for me.

I did see the chat offer from WordPress; I plan on scheduling one.

Thank you for everyone’s help; it is much appreciated.

  • All SEO plugins do basically the same thing: They create a sitemap for your site that search engines use to index your site, they provide meta-data about your content and different types of links on your site (e.g. post links, page links, archive links) to search engines that influence the description search engines will show for each type of link, they ping search engines when you publish new content so search engines will come index that content, etc.

Jetpack also does these things, so if you already have Jetpack you don’t really need Yoast or All in one SEO as well, unless you want to use some of the additional features of those plugins.

And as I mentioned above, all this is included in WordPress.com sites be default, regardless of plan, though the Business Plan gives you a bit more control over the settings for this. If you only want Jetpack rather than another SEO plugin, you don’t really need a plugin at all, as everything in Jetpack is already in your site right now.
