JETPACK PLUG-IN ERROR MESSAGE, NO CONNECTION TO WORDPRESS.com

Actually, I need help with MAYOCommunications.com. My site got hacked, then Earthlink Engineers gave me directions on how to restore files missing in plugins, themes and posts, only to learn on the final step they could not support the next move. Long story short I started over and quickly rebuilt the site. I love Jetpack, but everytime I try to connect to WordPress.com to get it to work I get this error message:
Your Jetpack has a glitch. Something went wrong that’s never supposed to happen. Guess you’re just lucky: xml_rpc-32700
    Try connecting again.
Error Details: The Jetpack server could not communicate with your site’s XML-RPC URL. Please check to make sure http://mayocommunications.com/xmlrpc.php is working properly. It should show ‘XML‑RPC server accepts POST requests only.’ on a line by itself when viewed in a browser and should not have any blank links or extra output anywhere.
I deactivated Jetpack until I can solve this problem if it isn’t too advanced. Even since I launched the new WP website platform from DreamWeaver platfor Sept. 2013, I’m still learning the ropes.

Can anyone help me find a solution or do I need to find a theme and interactive pkge with social media networks to share? Thanks Gmcquade.

  • Hi there. I’m tagging this for staff in case they can help you from this side. Meanwhile you can also try contacting Jetpack support directly, or try the Jetpack plugin forum on WordPress.org. If they help you resolve this before staff answers here, let me know and I’ll un-tag the thread again.

Hi gmcquade I sometimes run into errors like this (although fixing a hacked site can be a pain).

A quick look at your site, in case you haven’t seen it yet, you need to re-save your permalinks so you can get a way from ?p=108 etc to something more word based to match your content. And are you sure you want people to be able to register, if so make sure the default account is a subscriber! in your settings page.

A couple of the problems that I get, you may have as well. So check them to see if they are your problem.

Firstly, are you running a security plugin, like ithemes security, if so, you need to uncheck disable xmlrpc to allow Jetpack to access the site. The reponse should then be from the xmlrpc.php file “XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only.”

I would check more at a server level, because basic responses that we should get like 404’s are not happening, been given other codes.. Maybe your site is behind a web server firewall like Modsecurity, that is doing the filter. certainly worth checking there, and also in the htaccess file for any potential rules.

The only other time i’ve run into issues is when I’ve blocked the ip address of Jetpack’s servers, my server also blocked outgoing ips, and had to create a white-list for that too.

Hopefully you sort your issue out.

    Hi there,

    I checked your site’s XML-RPC file at http://mayocommunications.com/xmlrpc.php and it’s being blocked.

Your site’s XML-RPC file is kind of like a communication gateway to your site. Jetpack, the WordPress Mobile Apps, and other plugins and services use this file to communicate to your site. (If this is blocked, you will have other issues pop-up down the road for the same reasons.)

I would suggest contacting your hosting provider and asking them to unblock your site’s XML-RPC. Once that is unblocked, Jetpack should be able to communicate with your site so you can get it working.

If you have any other questions or concerns, you can also contact our Jetpack team directly at the link kokkieh mentioned:
