jetpack plugin lost all stats and blog subscribers

Working on evaluating the recently updated version of the Jetpack plugin, I disconnected and then re-connected from wordpress.com on the Jetpack page.

After re-connecting, my stats re-set to zero and I have lost all of my blog subscribers. Stats are less important, but how do I get my subscriber list back?
    Blog url: http://libertyblitzkrieg.com/

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What is the URL of the .wordpress.com blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

There is no .wordpress.com blog. The blog is self-hosted. We are using the jetpack plugin which has been maintaining our subscribers. After disconnecting and re-connecting through the Jetpack plugin, all the subscribers and site stats have disappeared.

see also this discussion which seems to be the same issue.

  • Did you ever use the WordPress.com Stats plugin prior to Jetpack?

If so, did you ever change your blog’s URL or domain while using the WordPress.com Stats plugin?

  • Unknown's avatar

We never used the WordPress.com Stats plugin. The blog was originally hosted at wordpress.com and then migrated to a self-hosted server. After migration, you guys migrated all of our subscribers over to our self-hosted site. Since that time, we have not changed the blog’s URL.

I have done some digging through our db, and I have two blog ID’s that I pulled out of the wp_options table. One is from the jetpack_options key and the other is from the stats_options key. Let me know if it would help to give you those numbers (and if I can send them to you privately so as not to be posting our guts on the interwebs).

  • Hm, that could be the problem. I have 41386641 over here. What’s the other ID?

  • Unknown's avatar
  • Ok, it looks like you did change your URL at some point.

    41386641 is for libertyblitzkrieg.com and 39968248 is for lb.sofasage.com

We won’t be able to recover your stats, but I have transferred your subscribers to libertyblitzkrieg.com.

Interesting. That was the temporary URL that we were using for development during the transition period when we were migrating form wordpress.com to self-hosted.

In my recollection, we definitely connected the jetpack plugin to wordpress.com AFTER changing the site’s URL to liberty blitzkrieg.com.

In any case, the stats are not significant, but the subscribers are. This morning we had somewhat over 500 subscribers. As of now, after you did the transfer, there are 8. Is there someplace else you can look for the rest of them?

  • That is all that I could find attached to either blog, definitely not 500.

Perhaps you were using a different subscription plugin?

  • Unknown's avatar

No, the only subscriptions that we had were through jetpack. The only thing that changed today on our end was disconnecting the jetpack plugin and then re-connecting the jetpack plugin.

That long list of email addresses MUST still exist somewhere, right? You guys have a backup or something somewhere, right?

  • No, we don’t keep backups of that, but I also don’t see any trace of 500 subscribers ever existing at either Jetpack blog URL.

Were any other temporary URLs involved?

Also, did you use Publicize with your WordPress.com blog? Because your Facebook and Twitter followers are added to your total Followers.

  • Unknown's avatar

We were not using Publicize. We (there are two of us administrating the site) keep a close eye on things. We’re on the site and looking at stats, subscribers, etc every day. There were definitely over 500 email subscribers this morning.

I have been preparing to put our admin area on a different host name accessed via SSL. Can you see whether you have any jetpack records associated with secure.libertyblitzkrieg.com?

  • No records for that. Was the blog ever connected to a different WordPress.com user?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes, username: mkriegs

  • Hm, nothing there either. We’re looking into this.

  • Unknown's avatar

remotely possible (but unlikely) that it could have once been connected to user: pjvandal

  • Yeah, still the same as before. I’ll let you know when we have something.

If it helps any in trying to track down our missing subscribers, my personal wordpress.com account (different from this one I am posting under) was subscribed to the site and that subscription is still showing up for me in the Reader. Maybe there is a pointer in that subscription to the proper blog ID or something?

We just published a post and didn’t receive a notification through that subscription though…

  • What is the username of that account?
