Jetpack Search Terms

Why is no data ever reported under Jetpack Stats Search Terms? My site has exceeded 1000 views, and it was submitted to Google Search Console weeks ago. It seems difficult to readily evaluate the search terms used in GA4, as well. Thank you.

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

I would like to note on my posted question, that Google is included under the Referrers, along with others, but the Search Terms field consistently reports “No data”, regardless of the time frame selected. I’ve read what Support docs I could find on the issue and watched a training video, but have not found an answer. Thank you for any assistance.

Along these same lines, do I need to be concerned about the large number of what I believe are probably scammers/IP addresses, visiting my site? Most visitors are not coming through any Referrer noted on Jetpack stats and the number of unreferred visitors exceeds Referred visitors by nearly 1,000%. I do not have reason to think they are visiting my site because they were made aware of the domain name through a reputable and upstanding source. Thank you. -Quite Concerned

    Hi there!

Why is no data ever reported under Jetpack Stats Search Terms?

This is because search engines like Google encrypt your search queries, so it’s no longer possible for us to capture that information. It used to be possible, which is when that module for search terms was created, but it isn’t possible anymore. (Some information about this change is in this blog post from Google.)

The best way to monitor search terms is to use Google Search Console and view that information directly on their dashboard.

Along these same lines, do I need to be concerned about the large number of what I believe are probably scammers/IP addresses, visiting my site?

WordPress.com sites do not have a bandwidth limit, so traffic coming to a public site shouldn’t be a cause for concern.

Regarding referrers, you can mark individual referrers as spam if you no longer wish to see them listed on your stats page. But visits coming from different IP addresses are generally fine.

    Hope that helps!
