Jetpack seems to mess up with default media width setting
-
I have set it at 600px and YouTube embeds are being rendered with 640px width.

Hi there,
We’re aware of this issue and are currently investigating it.
In the meantime, you might try disabling the shortcodes module in Jetpack, and using the auto-embed feature by inserting the YouTube URL on its own line in the post editor.
Alternatively, you could use something like the following shortcode:
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaNH56Vpg-A&w=640&h=385]Be sure to replace the URL with your YouTube URL, and set the correct height and width parameters manually.

how can i disable the shortcodes feature? there is no option available from the jetpack dashboard!
i do not even use shortcodes. i use embedly which works well for me! i am primarily using jetpack for stats right now. :)

Howdy,
You can disable it by clicking on the “Learn More” button in the Shortcode Embeds module at Jetpack -> Jetpack, and then clicking on “Deactivate”.

oh man. sorry. i missed that button. you should consider making the deactivate button visible by default!
thanks. :)
