  Every time I try to update the SEO description of my website’s homepage, it erases all the data from the homepage itself. How do I update the SEO description without it deleting the homepage?

  Making changes to SEO description should not cause the homepage to be deleted. Can you confirm that this is indeed what happens? Is the homepage itself deleted or were you more specifically referring to the field where you enter SEO description?
  
  If you have a plugin activated that controls search engine optimization (Yoast SEO for example) the settings on these plugins will prevail over the standard fields.

  If you use Yoast SEO, you can navigate from the dashboard to ‘Yoast SEO → Settings’ then under ‘Content types → Homepage’ to add or customize your SEO title and meta descriptions.
