Jetpack Sharing Email Not Being Sent
-
Hello,
The share a post by email function isn’t working on my blog – the form pops up, I enter the email address and the form confirms that I have shared the post, but I never receive the email. It’s not in spam or anything, either.
I have been digging off and on for a week and have found where the advice is to clear my cache and others have had conflicting widgets/plugins but I don’t really have any other plugins on my blog.
Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,
I’m sorry to hear that the sharing email button isn’t working for you. We’ll be happy to help.
Can you try the lost password function from your dashboard login screen to see if you get a password reset email? This’ll help us see if your host is configured to send emails. (You don’t need to reset your password, but reply to this forum thread letting us know if you received the email.)

Thanks!

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. When I clicked the link and entered my email, I got the following message:
The e-mail could not be sent.
Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function…Is this something I can fix?
Thanks!

It depends on your host, so your best bet is to contact your host to see if they can enable the mail() function.
Please let me know how that works out for you. :-)

Hi, this is what the hosting company said:
While the mail function isn’t strictly disabled, it IS unreliable to send email from the webserver itself. We strongly recommend you switch to a method of sending that allows for remote authentication to your mailserver, like PHPmailer or PEAR. Your plugin developers may be able to provide more information on whether or not their plugins are compatible with these methods.
I don’t guess that is very helpful…any other ideas?
Thanks,
Matt -
I’m afraid I don’t have any other ideas. :-(
It sounds like WordPress and Jetpack will work with your host (Network Solutions), but maybe not with your current set up.
At this point, our best suggestion is to work with your host since we’re limited in what we can see and do on your self–hosted blog.
You can also post on the WordPress.org Support Forums to see if anyone else has any suggestions.

Ok thanks for your help.
One other thing I noticed was that on what looks to be the most recent version of the plug in there is a much bigger window and a recaptcha; mine is just one field and the send button.
Is mine just not updated correctly?
Thanks,

I just updated to 1.7 a couple of days ago; it wasn’t working prior to that either, with 1.6.
Thanks,

I don’t see the Share by Email button on any of your posts, like http://www.gktw.org/blog/bracelets-to-benefit-gktw/
Would you please add it back so I can take a look?

Hm, it’s the right form, but it isn’t working from your blog.
Please give it a short with all plugins except Jetpack temporarily disabled.

-
Ok, theme functions can sometimes interfere like plugins, so please also try with the Twenty Eleven theme temporarily activated.
-
Ahhh, I tested this on another blog (http://www.eideticwebdesign.com/blogblog/?p=7) and it worked. That gives me something to chase…thanks!
-
Ok, it’s probably a theme conflict then. I recommend getting in touch with your theme’s designer about this.

I was a little tired and forgot that the other blog is on a different type server, too. That’s what it is because the email doesn’t work on the Windows server, regardless of theme. The one that works is on Linux and the one that doesn’t is on Windows, IIS7.5 with PHP.
Thanks for your help.

Right, it doesn’t work with the Twenty Eleven theme (or the Thesis Theme) on that Windows server.
-
Ok, did you have any luck with your hosting provider allowing for the more traditional mail function, or are they pretty much dead-set on that?
