Jetpack subscriber transfer
-
Hello:
I started the free blog at the above link in order to transfer my existing domain. I’ve done the export and import steps and was told by someone on WordPress Twitter to contact before disconnecting Jetpack from self hosted in order for my subscribers and stats to be transferred. So I’m looking to start that process. Also, I was going through the process of domain mapping and it’s only offering me the option of the $96 premium plan but when I log into wordpress.com the personal plan option is significantly less than that and was going to be the plan I went for. Do I not have a choice when I’m changing domains?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please go to https://wordpress.com/plans and upgrade to the personal plan and then follow the domain mapping process. If you start with the domain mapping first the system would want you to upgrade to the premium plan as that’s the default system settings.
I am tagging this thread with modlook for the attention of support staff to move the subscribers.

Thank you akumar.
Do I pick the plan under my self hosted (reactionarytales.com) or under the free site I started? The plan under self hosting upgrade says free unlimited storage etc. under annual pricing. Under the free one it’s showing monthly billing and 6 GB of storage. It’s obvious which one I want to do but I want to make sure I’m doing it right.
Thanks again.

At the moment reactionarytales.com is hosted by Bluehost and not WordPress.com. It might be linked to your WordPress.com account using JetPack plugin.
You would need to upgrade your free WordPress.com site and then map your domain name to it. You can see all WordPress.com plans at https://wordpress.com/pricing page. The business plan on WordPress.com offers unlimited storage.
All the plans at WordPress.com are billed upfront for the year. There is no monthly payment option, as of now.

Got it. Thank you. I will get the domain moved over now and wait for the support staff to move everything.
Will I get an email notification when that process is done and it’s okay to cancel with Bluehost?
-
I suggest you move your content before canceling your self-hosted site or mapping your domain name. Once you cancel your self-hosted site you might not be able to move your content.
-
I moved all the content (posts, photos etc) after creating the free site. I was just told I need help to move subscribers and stats. That’s correct right?
-
If you have moved the content then wait for the support staff to help you with moving the subscribers and stats. Make sure the JetPack plugin on your self-hosted site is linked to the same WordPress.com account which owns your WordPress.com hosted site.
-
Yes, thank you. The Jetpack plugin is still connected on the self hosted and the newly made one is on the same account.

Hi there,
I’ve migrated both your subscribers and your stats. You can now disconnect Jetpack, and if you’re 100% sure all your content is safely on WordPress.com, cancel your hosting for the old site.
I would recommend you just get a full-site backup of the old site before you take it completely offline, just as a precaution should you discover anything missing down the line.

Hi kokkieh,
Thank you very much. Once I disconnect Jetpack from the self-hosted, will my dashboard name change from .wordpress.com to just .com or does that take a few days to show?
Thanks again!
-
The WordPress.com site’s dashboard link will always reference the free address. But anyone looking at your site will see the .com domain instead.
I notice your domain is still pointed at Bluehost. Remember to update the name servers or the domain won’t start showing your WordPress.com site. You can do that at My Site ->Domains – click on the domain, and click on Name Severs and DNS. Toggle the option to use WordPress.com name servers. The domain should start showing your WordPress.com site within a few hours of doing that.
-
I see. Thank you again kokkieh. I did as you instructed and toggled the Name Servers and DNS. Does it matter which one is primary? Also, I have a notification to claim a free domain. I don’t have to do anything with that do I since I’m already using one I own?
-
Your domain is now correctly pointed to us, and showing your WordPress.com site.
The primary domain determines which domain visitors to your site will see. If you want people to see your .com domain in their browsers, then it should be the primary.
Your domain should have been linked with your plan when you transferred it – the free domain in your plan was used for the transfer – but it looks like it wasn’t properly linked. That’s why you see that notification. I’ve now properly linked the two, so the notification should now go away, and the next time your plan renews the domain will renew with it.

Thank you kokkieh. One last thing, I think, lol.
So I still see two sites. I thought I was to go into the .org wordpress to disconnect Jetpack so that I don’t see two sites on the dashboard when I log in. Is that not the case? Or will it disappear once I cancel with Bluehost completely? -
Disconnecting Jetpack from the site’s dashboard should have removed it, but you can also do it from this site.
Go to My Sites ->Switch Site, and select the Jetpack site. Then click on Settings. The option to remove the Jetpack site should be at the bottom.
-
Hi kokkieh, l
I did as you stated but I’m still showing 2 websites in my dashboard. How do I make what used to be the main one, disappear?
Thanks.
-
You need to click on Switch Site and select the Jetpack-connected site. Then you can remove it under Settings – Jetpack sites show a disconnect option there instead of a delete site option.
But I’ve gone ahead and removed it for you, so you should now only see your WordPress.com site in your account.

Kokkieh, you are amazing! Thank you.
As for how my posts show up in the Reader, I turned off the settings for it to only show the excerpt but it still shows excerpts and people view them in the reader and you have to physically view the site to comment. Is that because I’m on a paid plan that it shows up that way?
Thanks again!
-
It looks like the Reader still thinks your site is connected via Jetpack, instead of on WordPress.com. I’ve tried refreshing your site’s feed in the Reader, but we likely won’t see any change until you publish your next post.
Please let me know once you’ve done that. If it’s still not working I can ask a developer from our Reader team to take a look.
