Jetpack Subscription Migration Tool not showing all sites
-
I’m trying to migrate my followers and email followers from a wordpress.com site that I am an admin to (but not an owner of) to a self-hosted site which I am both the owner and an admin for. The tool does not show the wordpress.com site for me to migrate from even though it exists in the ‘My Sites’ tab.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello @thomasdowell,
Would you be able to share with us the url for your self-hosted site?
Just another point to consider would be to check if your Jetpack-connected site has any contents yet. Stats are tied to your site’s content, so before the staff can transfer your stats, you may first need to migrate your content to the new site.
You can export content from your WordPress.com site at My Site ->Settings ->Export. Then log into WP-Admin on your new site, go to Tools ->Import and select the WordPress importer. Once that’s installed you will be able to upload the .xml file you got from WordPress.com and that will move your content over.
Once you have successfully moved your content from WordPress.com to your self-hosted jetpack connected site, the staff will be able to assist you in migrating your site stats.
And now, if you have completed the above mentioned steps already and looking forward to migrating stats, this is something only staff will be able to assist you with. I have tagged this post for staff’s attention. Someone from the staff will reach you shortly.
I hope this points you in the right direction of support. All the best.

Adding just another point I missed out in the previous post.
Once you have successfully exported your WordPress.com content and imported it into your self-hosted site, make sure you set the old site to private so people cannot follow it any more.
All the best!.

The URL for my self-hosted site is http://www.thomasdowell.co.uk/bacstage.net/ Please note that this is a temporary URL – I have changed the nameservers on a wordpress.com domain to point at this site and the changes are currently taking effect.
The Jetpack-connected site has contents as I have already imported the old site, as you have described.
I have also just set the old site to private as you have suggested.
I am still unable to see the old site in the Jetpack Subscription Migration Tool.

Hi there,
Only the owner of a WordPress.com site can migrate followers from that site. In other words, you’d need to own both the WordPress.com site and the Jetpack connection for the self-hosted site to do this. If you’re not the owner of either site, you won’t be able to do this, even if you are an admin.
What is the address of the WordPress.com site? We can do the migration for you, but we’ll need the owner of that site to comment here to confirm before we can migrate the followers to the new site.
Please note that this is a temporary URL
If you migrate your followers to the Jetpack site on a temporary URL, and then later disconnect and reconnect Jetpack for any reason, that will create a new Jetpack connection at the new URL, and will cause your stats and followers to be “lost”. I put that in quotes because they’ll still exist on our end, but on the original connection created for the temp URL rather than on the connection for the permanent URL.
So for that reason it’s better to hold off on doing something like migrating followers and stats until your new site is on it’s permanent URL. Once the site is on the permanent URL, disconnect and reconnect Jetpack, and then let us know here to do the migration.
We can also do it immediately if you prefer. Just be aware that it can cause issues in future.
The OP did not ask anything related to migrating content, nor did they ask to transfer stats. They asked a question about migrating followers, and nowhere in your reply do you address that question.
While it’s always good to go the extra mile, please make sure you understand someone’s question before answering, and try to stick to the issue at hand, rather than providing a bunch of irrelevant information that has as much potential to cause confusion as it has to help.
