Jetpack/WP.com stats – exclude user?

Where is the setting to exclude myself via i.p. address from being including in the Jetpack/Wp.com stats?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

I’m not sure what you mean. Do you mean if you visit a site, you don’t want your visit to be counted in the stats? There is no way to prevent that.

But all we log in any case is the visit. Your IP is not logged anywhere when you visit a site, only when you comment, so there is no way to tell from our side whether someone specific visited a site or not.

If you’re concerned about your online behaviour being tracked, that kind of tracking can only be done by your ISP or someone who has access to your computer and browser. The best way to prevent that is to use a VPN or a TOR browser which makes it impossible for someone to spy on your internet traffic from the outside.

Stats are not very useful if they include my visits in the pageview counts, etc. Not a privacy concern. The i.p. reference is how many site countes work in excluding visits from specific i.p. addresses (my home router, my work i.p., etc.).

Only through those exclusions can stats be useful and accurate. I’m sorry to hear that WP/Jetpack stats includes these visits so I’ll be unhooking Jetpack stats and using another instead.

    Thanks for the reply.

Views from an admin on a public site are not included in stats, as long as you are logged in while viewing the site. If you specified up front what exactly you wanted to do I’d have given that answer right away.

For a WordPress.com site this is restricted only to admins on a site. For a self-hosted site connected via Jetpack you can specify for which user roles it should apply. You can control that setting via the WP-Admin dashboard ->Jetpack ->Settings ->Engagement. Click the Arrow on the stats option to expand the options.

Thanks, and sorry for not being clear. Not including logged-in admins helps, but isn’t enough. Excluding views from i.p. means not counting site owners who frequently view their site without being logged in. This provides for accurate stats of true visitors.

Still, Jetpack stats are great for what they are. Thanks for the follow up clarification.

  • I double checked with the Jetpack team and there’s definitely no way to block logged-out views.
