June 2009 position on editorial sponsorship
-
I understand from reading pages written a few years ago, that advertising (Adsense, click-through etc), is unwelcome on WordPress.com. However, every page also says that this could change if people give enough feedback. I’d just like to get the official statement for here and now to check my google-fu isn’t picking up old information.
I write what wordpress.com calls a business blog (it’s on law) and a firm has approached me with the aim of writing some academic articles for them, I would be paid for the work and it would be posted on my blog. The posts will be original material that I will own the rights to over the life of the blog and it’s not for SEO or affiliate marketing or any of the other categories which types-of-blogs bans. The only difference to a normal blog post is simply the firm’s support for particular posts.
Is this permissible under today’s policy?

Update: After contacting WordPress support the answer is no, this is even if you have the domain name upgrade (it’s still hosted on wordpress.com so it’s their brand). VIP customers can but if you’re big enough for that, well, you already know.
June 2009 – no user advertising on WordPress.com
