Junk referrals

  I find I’m getting more and more hits from sites that just want me to visit them for some dubious reason. Are others noticing more junk referrals?

  Akismet is extremely good at filtering spam from Comments. But I guess there is no way to filter the other stuff. Or is there? Is this a growing issue? It seems so to me. I get a daily from some pathetic student loans refinancing scam, for example.

  I’ve noticed the same increase in junk referrals. I used to check the referring site but am starting to resent the spam I am seeing once I get there. Is the idea to get bloggers to go to their site or is there some other reason they are doing this?

  The idea is to convince you to visit their spam, yes. Referral Spam, I believe is the correct term. WordPress wants us to send the links to their Support staff. Just copy and paste the link into a Support here:

  The above is correct; we are continually trying to find the best way to combat the referral spam you are seeing and the best plan of action is to send those our way for further work and analysis.
