Just 4 sections on Twenty Seventeen theme ?
-
Hello,
I would like to know if, with a free plan, there is a way to add a fitfh section (or more) to Twenty Seventeen theme’ front page. It appears to be strictly limited to four sections.
Many thanks for your answer. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
Yes, the theme is limited to four panel sections on its front page. The Front Page section of the Twenty Seventeen Overview says, “Twenty Seventeen has four different sections to which you can assign pages.”

Hi there,
This is a limitation in the theme’s design, yes. To add an additional section you’d need to modify the theme’s source code itself, and on WordPress.com that’s only possible through creating a child theme and installing it on our Business Plan.
We have several one-page themes, though – Pique is a popular option – it has up to eight panels. You can also see the other themes that support a scrolling front page here:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/one-page/
Alternatively, you can set up any of our newer block-editor themes as a single-page site. In that case the “panels” aren’t made up of individual pages as on a traditional one-page theme, but each panel is rather a grouping of blocks with its own background.
You can take a look at Alves as an example, as its default front page is set up that way, though you can achieve a similar layout with any of the block editor themes – the collection of themes that appear first when you go to My Site ->Design ->Themes:

There are many other free useful themes you can download and you don’t have to touch the code. However, it takes time to find a free theme that meet your requirements, but it is good enough the testing phase.

Hello Sinbad10,
Thanks but there is something I would like to know. Up to that point, I made a lot of work to adjust everything on my site with Twenty Seventeen theme. I am quite happy and I found a way to deal with the 4 sections only limitation, by associaiting my projected fifth section to the fourth. If I try another theme with all my existing work, is it a no-return process or may I go back to previous Twenty Seventeen theme ? -

Yes, it’s possible to return to the Twenty Seventeen theme after a trial with a different theme, or to return to any previously used theme with the exception of retired premium themes. However, switching themes may have remediable effects on the location of menus, widgets, and CSS (if used) might need to be recovered after a theme switch. See the My Content and Switching Themes section of the Themes support page for the relevant remedies, and its Retired Premium Themes subsection for information on that exception.
