Just a query, not a complaint

I was just wondering what the reasoning behind only allowing plugins on on Premium plans and above. I can understand why the free plan has limitations, by the very nature of it being free. I only ask, because a friend has a premium plan and tells me all about the ‘wonderful’ plugins she has access to.

As I say, merely a query, but it would be nice if some of the plugins were available to people on personal plans.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can’t get access to your own plugins with a WordPress.com Premium plan. You need a Business plan or an eCommerce plan.
The reason for this is that Free/Personal/Premium sites all run together in a shared environment. A bad plugin/bad code could affect the whole platform. WordPress.com are consequently careful what they install and keep control of the system.
The more expensive Business plans run differently/individually and if one site crashed it wouldn’t affect the others.
As far as I can see, all the useful plugins I’d ever need are already installed on WordPress.com sites, even free ones. The only extra plugins I’d need would be if I wanted to create a business site rather than my current “hobby” blog.

    Plugins

Sorry, I didn’t make myself clear. I don’t want to install my own plugins, merely would be interested in some of the popular plugins already written.

However I understand what you are saying.

    Thanks for your reply

the last reply does not really answer my question:
…. wondering what the reasoning behind only allowing plugins on on Premium plans and above….”
maybe it could be an option in the future?

However, the reply did not really answer my main question?
…wondering what the reasoning behind only allowing plugins on on Premium plans and above…
There are plugins which I could find useful. Maybe an idea for the future?

    Thank you

I’m sorry I obviously didn’t make myself clear either.
By “your own plugins” I didn’t mean plugins you’d designed yourself….merely plugins YOU install on a site above and beyond the numerous pre-loaded ones.
And you CAN’T install plugins on a site here running a Premium plan.
Perhaps you could say what plugins you’d find useful and post that here in the “Ideas” forum.

Ah that makes it a lot clearer given your previous answer. Thanks for looking at this and your helpful advice.

    I can now close this
