Just another boring beginner-question
-
Hi everybody
I tried 100 times to add an rss feed to my blog, but always failed – even with help from FAQ and other posts on the forums. So please could anyone help me?
I followed the instructions from FAQ and put an “RSS 1” into my sidebar, then put inside this RSS 1 as explained:
<imgsrc=”http://faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/k14.png” />But it always tells me that this URL can’t be read. What do I do wrong?
Thank you a lot!

oh, it doesn’t show here the whole link I wanted to show. Second try:
<img src=”http://faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/k14.png” />

grmbl… doesn’t show the link. But you can find it by going to FAQ and then RSS, then the first post. Sorry!

The code will show if you place it between backticks. Backticks look like this `. On North American keyboards the backtick key is to the left of the number 1 key. It’s in lower case and is below the ~. If you’re in Europe it’s to the left of the backspace button on your keyboard. :-)

ah hihi, forgot that I’m on international level here…please don’t laugh if I do it wrong again…

You’ll want to put that in a text widget and not a RSS widget. :)
If you want to show your feed link:
* Drag a Text Widget to your sidebaretc.
-
I saw that as well, but when I klick on the text widget there is a title and a text possibility to put it inside. in which one should I put it: in the upper one or the one below?
I tried it in both and failed twice. So maybe my URL is wrong anyway?
-
The upper (smaller) one is for a title you can give your widget, which will then show in your sidebar. The larger area is where you actually put the html link, as you have written out above.
Have fun!

Sorry for posting so fast: But I tried it out now, I made the title “RSS” and then the html link in the one down. It now shows on my blog, but you can’t klick on it: http://www.plappermaul.wordpress.com
I’m really confused ;-)

Ok-you posted again before I hit the “send post” button. :)
I just looked at your page source and your code there has double sets of quotes around the links.
<a href="”http://plappermaul.wordpress.com/feed”"><img src="”http://faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/k14.png”" /></a>You only need one set of quotes around each link.

ah! this one? “”….””?
too much, right…
-> I changed it, but it doesn’t work anyway. As a matter of fact, I need to leave now. Thank you for your help, I’ll try and error and feel stupid tomorrow again ;-)

One set of the quotes in just jennifer’s post above were “curly” quotes. If you deleted the straight quotes then that is the problem. Delete them and put in straight quotes.
