Just bought a domain on wordpress. How to create/manage subdomains?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I just bought the domain mfelicio.com on wordpress. I’d like to know if I can create subdomains, like blog.mfelicio.com and others, map the blog.mfelicio.com to mfelicio.wordpress.com and map mfelicio.com to another hosting website.

    Thanks in advance,
    Manuel Felício

Hi. If you want to point to other sites hosted outside of WordPress.com, you can create CNAME records like this:

    Hi,

Thanks for the fast reply. Actually I would like to know where can I manage the domain I just bought. How can I create subdomains my blog.mfelicio.com or foo.mfelicio.com, and if it is free to create as many subdomains as I want.

    Thanks

I believe I understood your question properly. :-)
Did you check the link I gave you?

So I just bought mfelicio.com and paid 25$ (where 12$ of that were needed to map the domain to wordpress). Now to create blog.mfelicio.com I have to pay another 12$ to map the subdomain to wordpress.

I can’t see fairness in that. So I guess I’m not going to do it..

The CNAME records I was talking about are for blogs hosted outside of WordPress.com. Indeed, if you want your subdomains to point to a site hosted by WordPress.com, that’s called a subdomain mapping upgrade, not a domain mapping upgrade.

This means you shouldn’t have paid $12 for the domain mapping upgrade (mfelicio.com), but rather $12 for the subdomain mapping (blog.mfelicio.com). I suggest you contact staff about this as soon as possible in case they can offer you a refund or an exchange:

I don’t know, because I bought mfelicio.com from WordPress’s Dashboard website. Do you think they will let me map blog.mfelicio.com and let me use mfelicio.com to anything else I want?

    Thanks for your help.

Technically I believe it is possible (it involves changing the nameservers so they point to one place, adding a CNAME record at your other hosting provider and buying the subdomain mapping upgrade from WP.com). But I strongly recommend you contact staff from here.
