Just Checking on the Steps to Use a Personal Domain.
-
I just pulled the trigger on using my new WordPress site, and want to make sure I followed the steps properly for my Go Daddy domain to point here.
1) My WP site is http://thesmallwave.wordpress.com/. From the Domain screen I followed the advice to go to Go Daddy and change the DNS servers to NS1, NS2, and NS3.WORDPRESS.COM.
2) Once the above was complete, I entered the domain in the Upgrade -> Domains page, and was prompted to purchase 10 credits via PayPal, which I did.
3) Now my Domains page shows the WP URL as well as my Go Daddy domain (thesmallwave.com), and tells me it’s redirecting to the WP URL.
This is all fine, except the Go Daddy domain is NOT redirecting to the WordPress URL. Is this simply question of time, and I should be patient? As near as I can tell Go Daddy has already performed its update to the DNS servers (if it hadn’t I don’t think WordPress would have let me enter the domain in the first place).
Right now when I use my domain all I get is a “can’t find the server” error. I don’t want to panic and try to “fix” this if the process takes a while, but I don’t want to sit around and do nothing if I have an issue, either. How long should I wait before I think I’ve got a problem here?

When I got my domain mapping on the other blog, it took some time for the DNS propagation. If you’ve just made the name server change, then you might want to wait for 24-48 hours.
