Just deleted my domain on wordpress.com as I thought can use straight away in wordpress.org. How can I recover it?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Unknown

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Your domain does not expire until May 2nd, so you will need to transfer the domain to the new host if you want to continue to use it (as opposed to deleting the domain). I went ahead and restored the domain to your WordPress.com account.

Our support page provides step by step instructions on how to transfer the domain:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/

Please follow those steps and let us know if you run into any issues during the transfer process.

    Thanks!

But my domain is expiring in less than 7 days, and when I tried transferring my domain it says” Unable to transfer detectivedonpi.com, detectivedonpi.com expires in less than 7 days!
If your domain has already expired or will expire within 7 days, we strongly recommend that you renew the domain at the current registrar and then wait for at least 45 days before initiating the transfer of the domain. However, if you understand the risks involved and would still like to proceed, we can allow you to transfer the domain name.

Domain transfers can take 7 to 10 days to complete, and if it is initiated but not completed prior to the domain’s expiration, the normal expiration grace period may be bypassed and the domain might go into redemption.
If the domain has already expired and the the transfer does not complete before the grace period is over, it will go into redemption.
If the domain goes into redemption, the domain can only be redeemed and renewed through the current registrar and would no longer be eligible to transfer.
If you proceed with initiating a transfer for a domain that has expired or is expiring shortly, you assume all risks and responsibility for any fees that are charged (late fees, redemption, domain restoration, etc.) as well as any associated downtime.
If you have questions about your current registrar’s policies regarding this matter, please contact them directly, as each registrar’s policies are different.

Hence, must I renew the domain firs then wait for at least 45 days before I can transfer my domain?

    Domain: detectivedonpi.com
    Created: May 2nd, 2021
    Expiration: May 2nd, 2023 (369 days)
    Current Registrar: Automattic Inc.
    Transfer Lock:
The domain detectivedonpi.com is currently locked from transfer (Status clientTransferProhibited).
You will need to unlock the domain at Automattic Inc. before a transfer can take place.
    EPP Authorization code: N**************4

I have already unlocked the transfer settings and entered the authorization code as seen above, but I am still met with the above message
“The domain detectivedonpi.com is currently locked from transfer (Status clientTransferProhibited).
You will need to unlock the domain at Automattic Inc. before a transfer can take place.” in red, and unable to add to cart. May I know how to resolve this issue?

Looking at your account dashboard, it looks like it’s still locked. Can you go here and click the “transfer” button and verify that it unlocks?

    https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/detectivedonpi.com/edit/detectivedonpi.wordpress.com

If so, please take a screenshot of that confirmation page. If you’re not familiar on how to take a screenshot, this support document will help explain how to make one:

    Take a Screenshot

Then, use a service like Snipboard.io to upload the screenshot and then share the image link from that service here and we’ll take a closer look.

    Thanks!

Hi yes, I have unlocked the “transfer” button and added to cart, and activated it from my email, and it seems that the transfer has been processed. Hence,
On the Settings -> General screen in a single site installation of WordPress, I went ahead to change the two fields named “WordPress Address (URL)” and “Site Address (URL)” to detectivedonpi.com, but “The WordPress address you entered did not appear to be a valid URL. Please enter a valid URL.” and “The Site address you entered did not appear to be a valid URL. Please enter a valid URL.” both appeared. Hence, I changed the two fields’ addresses to http://detectivedonpi.com but was met with a new error.

    I was straight away re-directed to “https//detectivedonpi.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fbox2087.temp.domains%2F~detectm3%2Fwp-admin%2Foptions-general.php&reauth=1”

    “Your connection is not private

example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more

Now, I cannot even log in to wordpress via the “log into wordpress” button from bluehost. I get the same error as stated above every time I try to login.

  • Hey there,

Have you reached out to Bluehost about this? The error appears to be coming from their end, so I will report this to them and see if they can assist you.

Please keep us updated on what you find out.

    Thanks!

Thanks! I seem to be able to get in wordpress through Bluehost now. However when I key in my domain detectivedonpi.com, it still brings me back to my wordpress.com blog at https://detectivedonpi.wordpress.com/. But I have already transferred the domain to bluehost at wordpress.org. May I know how can I get it to bring me to my new wordpress.org host?

  • When I visit detectivedonpi.com I am sent to your BlueHost site. And when I check WHOIS data, I see that namservers are pointing correctly to BlueHost.

So you may just need a wait a bit longer for your ISP to notice these changes. It can take up to 72 hours sometimes. You might also want to clear your browser’s cache in case it is stuck looking at older information for that domain.
