Just need a little help with domains please
-
Been around the internet, WordPress.com, WordPress.org and so forth and have found people to be rather rude and unhelpful. I just have a simple question regarding domain redirecting.
I had a WordPress.com page for quite a while. Now I have a WordPress.org one which is the updated version of the last (migrated all the posts and comments into the .org one).
I would simply like for the .com domain to redirect people to the .org one.
Now it seems the quick easy answer is listed here: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/10/domain-mapping/
But on closer reading I am very unsure of that. See here…
“Q: What is domain mapping?
A: This is where your blog is here at wordpress.com but it looks like it is somewhere else – on another domain.”This does not sound like what I need because the blog I use is NOT on the .com domain anymore. The blog I wish to use IS on another domain. The .com domain can sit stagnant and unused for all I care. I just need it to redirect to the .org one.
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Great way to start out asking questions. No wonder people are rude to you, if you ask questions like that. I am not rude, otherwise I would not give you this link which answers your question:

What worked fairly well for me was to clear out all posts on my old .COM blog, and put up one last post announcing my move and my new domain name with a link to it. It took approximately 2 months for the hits on my .COM blog to drop to nothing, but within the first couple weeks, it had dropped dramatically. At about 2.5 months, I set my blog here to private since there was virtually no traffic on it at all.

beemeister, I had actually meant to post the link to that same page you are linking. The text I list is actually on that same link as well.
So sorry that I’m apparently a total bastard. Perhaps your bees will show you more courtesy.
thesacredpath. Thanks for the suggestion. Although I was very much hoping to redirect the old blog and leave it be due to the fact that it has posts on the net that rank very well in their genre.
Does anyone else know how to accomplish this?

There used to be a workaround with the domain mapping, but several people I know have tried it and it no longer works. WordPress does not have anyway of redirecting a blog hosted here and some pretty resourceful people have tried.
You can leave the blog up if you prefer, and use the new sticky post feature, which would put the redirect post at the top of the blog and even keep it there if you were to add other posts to the .COM blog in the future. In that way, all the posts on the blog would still be available. I had assumed that you had moved the posts over to your new blog.

Actually, they sting me from time to time. :)

I see. It appears there is no solid or smooth solution. Thank you. I’ll save lots of time knowing this.

TSP – the link beemeister has above is the domain-mapping trick. Is it no longer working?
-
I’ve had several people email me about it and say it no longer works. I’ve went through it with them, and was not able to get it to work either. Everything they had done was correct as far as I could tell.

Several staff have said here in the forums that wordpress.com doesn’t do redirects. I’ve always been confused about that FAQ. I should have bookmarked those threads.
