Just setting up for the first time …

I’m new to wordpress and looking to start up a blog page. I’ll be upgrading to a monthly payment one but at the moment I’ve got the basic free one.
My aim is to start putting blog stories on it with uploaded photos. I’ve put something up already but the next thing I want to learn is how to post it online like a link to the site and article and general getting around the site?
If anyone has some ideas?
