Just some basic guidelines needed

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

I was wondering how can I reserve a domain name through wordpress.com? Do I purchase the domain name through wordpress, or do I have to buy it from godaddy.com? Also, in order for me to modify the CSS code, I have to buy 15 credits, and then I get to alter the code?

    Thanks,

Regarding domains, you can do either. If you buy it through WordPress (Dashboard > Upgrades > Domains), it’s $10 a year for the domain and $10 a year to map it, and you’re ready to go. If you register it through a host like GoDaddy, you’ll have to change some of the settings, but it’ll work fine with WP. Generally I find it’s better to go with the host option; it just gives you some added flexibility and it’s less hassle later on.

For the CSS, yes, if you buy the upgrade you can style any theme and change its appearance; Sandbox is a great theme to use for that. You can’t alter the template HTML, though, just the CSS code. It’s best if you have some experience with CSS before you try it – it’s quite a jump for the uninitiated.

    Can I edit my templates?
