Just Switched To Business Plan But It’s Still In My Cart
-
Hello,
I have just upgraded my ddavidd.com website from the Personal Plan to the Business Plan.

The screenshot above from my Purchases page indicates the purchase was successful, and I have gotten my email receipt for the transaction.

Also, the left column in my dashboard next to “Upgrades” shows that I am on the Business Plan.

After making this transaction, when looking at the top right of my dashboard for this site, I am seeing I have the Business Plan in my cart, and it is ready for Checkout… but I have already made the transaction. I don’t remember adding the Business Plan to my cart before making the purchase. I just clicked on Upgrades, and then chose the option for Business Plan, and then followed the prompts and instructions from there to make the purchase… so I don’t know why this is in my cart now.

Obviously I don’t need to purchase the Business plan again, as I have already done so. I’m not sure why this is stuck in my cart now after I already made the purchase, and am on the Business Plan. I would like to remove this from my cart, but when I click on the “Remove from cart” option, I get the message above that pops up on the screen saying that it will remove the plan renewal. I am confused by what this means? Do I have to somehow cancel the purchase I already made, and then go back and do it over? How do I remove this from my cart so that I don’t inadvertently in the future make a wrong purchase? Perhaps I can just remove it without worries, but I will leave it in my cart until I am advised by a staff member about this.
Thanks for helping me.

While I have this thread started, I have another question as well. After switching to the Business Plan, when viewing my website, I notice that the WordPress menu bar, as well as the little menu thing that normally pops up in the lower right corner of the screen that has the “Edit Site”, and “Edit” buttons is no longer showing. Is that normal while on the Business Plan? Is it possible to bring those back?

You can safely proceed with removing it from your cart! Since you have the Business plan active already, the product in your cart is treated as a renewal of your existing plan. The notice is letting you know that what’s being removed is a ‘renewal’ in that case, rather than a fresh purchase.
Your plan in general is managed from here:
https://wordpress.com/me/purchasesWe do have a guide regarding purchase management, in case it can be handy:

Ah, it sounds like you’re referring to the action bar:
https://wordpress.com/support/admin-bar/#action-barThat isn’t available for sites which use plugins at this time; so it’s expected that you won’t see it. I saw that your site layout is fully constructed using Blank Canvas (Awesome job! It’s easy to browse your content although I understand you’re restructuring) and I had a look to see if there are any blocks for “website meta” links like the small Edit links which would show up with classic themes; unfortunately it doesn’t seem like anything like that exists yet.

I also just noticed you have a few Display Posts shortcodes in place – those also do not work by default on sites with plugins, but there is a dedicated plugin for the Display Posts shortcode. It’s linked in the guide:
https://wordpress.com/support/display-posts-shortcode/Alternatively if you’d like a little more customizability, it could be worth replacing those shortcodes with Query Loops instead – it does the same job essentially, but it’s the inbuilt WordPress method of displaying posts:

Thank you very much for the help. I was able to remove the item from my cart with no issue. I didn’t realize that was called an Action Bar, but that makes sense. The only reason I asked about it is because I always used that for easy access to edit pages and posts when browsing around my website. I’ll just have to get use to navigating through my dashboard more now.

Yes, shortly after Full Site Editing was added into WordPress after Gutenburg, I figured I can either hate all the new changes (I didn’t like the changes at first), or I can learn them and see what I can do with. I discovered the Blank Canvas theme and started learning all the basic blocks on a test blog. I wanted a theme with a sidebar as I was told my old favorite template, Colinear, would eventually deprecated. Before I knew it, I came up with the design you now see on my website that I copied over from the test blog. The restructuring I’m doing now, was mainly removing a lot of sections in the layout that weren’t necessary. So what you see now is how my website will remain. I’m now just cleaning up content over the coming weeks, so that I can get the site in order for more blogging work (hence the reason I upgraded to the higher plan). I’m kind of proud of the layout I came up with, and hope I don’t ever have to change it again lol. That was some work!

https://en.support.wordpress.com/site-editing/theme-blocks/query-loop-block/I’m really glad you caught those display shortcodes. I use those a lot, especially for building directory pages of content from the blog categories (easier to let WordPress build lists of posts in a category than trying to do it manually all the time). I would have probably flipped out if I caught this on my own and not known why they aren’t displaying now. I will look into the plugin you mentioned for this, and also the Query Loop block. If I can figure out how to get the same result with the Query Loop block then I’ll go that method to keep from having to install a plugin that may not be necessary. I’ve heard too many plugins can slow your website down for visitors. I have already installed one plugin since upgrading and got Google Analytics set up for the site now.
Again thank you for all your help. You were great!

Update… I tried the Query Loop block, and that doesn’t work the same way that I use the display shortcodes for, so I just installed the plugin you mentioned, and that fixed the issue of the shortcodes not displaying. They are displaying now.
Thanks again!

Awesome, I’m glad the plugin got them sorted! I see they’re showing as lists now, right? In that case if you do find you’d want a non-plugin alternative, I think I’d probably suggest the Latest Posts block instead of the Query Loop; it can act more like the Query Loop with content excerpts, or it can display simple lists:

Yes, you can see a more clear example of how I use the display post short codes on my directory page at https://ddavidd.com/directory/
The display posts shortcodes are great since they can provide auto-updating lists from categories and can be automatically sorted alphabetically. Then I don’t have to make the lists myself, unless the number of posts in a category exceeds what the shortcode can display, which I think is a max of 100 (I haven’t looked at documentation on it in awhile).
I don’t think the Query Loop and Latest Posts blocks have the ability to display a list from specific categories… at least not that I can tell.

Hi there,
I can see what you mean, the Query Loop and Blog Posts blocks are not really suited to that use.
Have you tried the latest posts block that was mentioned above? https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/latest-posts-block/
It is similar to the shortcode it displays a list of posts (newest to oldest) and can be filtered by category. You may find that it works in your situation.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
