Just trying to shut down my sites
-
Hello. I no longer have my CTO who used to manage my site(s). Thus, I have moved everything to Wix because it is easier for me. I feel I need to shut all of my past stuff down…
-
I should say I’ve pointed my domain to Wix now and will be publishing my new site soon, so that should all be good. I just feel like I should shut down my past WP sites so that they aren’t just floating around in the ether out there. I’ve cancelled/un-autorenewed all of my plugins etc., so everything should be good there. I’ve been told I don’t need to do anything else, but I’m thinking I should close my WP account permanently? Is this not necessary?

Hi there,
If you’re referring to hub.tribegreenrising.com, then that site is not hosted by us (WordPress.com). It’s only connected here.
To delete it you need to contact your hosting provider.

Ok, thanks for replying! Actually, my main site is just: tribegreenrising.com. However, that domain is now pointed to my new Wix site. So I guess what I’m asking is that when I used to access the backend of my WP site, I could see all of my plugins, etc. I can’t see any of that anymore now that I’ve reassigned my domain (I did that before I realized I would no longer be able to access my WP site(s)). So is there really nothing more I need to do in terms of shutting things down? I saw on my WP account that I could permanently delete my account…is that unnecessary? I don’t wanna do anything I regret; however, I do want to make sure everything is cleaned up. Sorry I suck at tech stuff, lol! Thanks for your patience with me! :)

Hi there,
I can confirm if I visit tribegreenrising.com I see a Wix landing page, as you can see here:
I can also see Wix domain name server (NS) addresses in your domain settings when I check here. https://gwhois.org/tribegreenrising.com+dns
Typically when you switch your domain from one service to another that will take the ‘old’ site offline, which seems to be the case for me on this end. It can tak 24 hours or so until the change is complete. When you modify domain settings the change is not instantaneous but requires some time to propagate.
Hope this helps!

That does help–thank you for confirming what you see for the landing page and the name server addresses. Yay, that’s great–and it all looks correct.
My question is simply: do I have anything I need to do with my old WordPress stuff/accounts, etc.? I am literally that lame at tech…I am just wondering if I have anything to delete/clean-up, etc.? I’ve been told that I don’t need to do anything since I’ve started with a new host/website builder, I just didn’t want to have any loose ends. I’ve cancelled the auto-renews for all the WP plugins I can think of; just wondering if there’s anything else?
Thank you (whomever answers me) for you patience with my lame questions!!!

You’re welcome! WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers and it sounds like your site was hosted elsewhere before you moved to Wix, so we’re limited to what we can advise here.
Regarding your questions, it depends on what your previous hosting provider does when you cancel a hosting account. I would recommend reaching out to them for guidance on what you should do next.
I hope that helps!

Thanks for your reply! I have reached out to them (Site Ground), and they’ve been great to work with. I have cancelled that hosting plan and now Wix is my new host and website builder. And my domain is still registered through Site Ground. Unfortunately, I am still confused though. I think it’s because I’m asking a question that is so ridiculous that people don’t really know what I mean. I probably don’t need to do anything at all. But since I didn’t actually officially close anything down with WP (like, what happened with my admin dashboard, etc?), I am left feeling like there is a site floating around out there that I can no longer access but it’s still there?! I dunno. I can barely do website stuff, so that’s why I’m asking crazy questions, lol.

This forum helps with free sites hosted at WordPress.com. It sounds like your site was on Sitegrounds servers rather than here. If you’ve cancelled your plan with Siteground then the site hosted there using the .org software will be gone (but you could always double check with them).
