Just want summary of posts to show up on front page
-
every time I publish a new post, the entire post shows up on my front page. I would like for it to just show up on the main page with a summary/preview of the post and then the reader will have to click on the post’s link to read the rest of the post. I don’t want all my posts to show up on my main page in their full content because some of them are very long and it looks ridiculous to have all these posts showing up in their entirety. It makes for just too much information to be on the front page. Anyone know how I can change this? Thanks.

Use the more tag. Depends on which editor you’re using. Here’s a FAQ about the different icons. It’s number 13. (Or it should be. I can’t open up a new window to check.) What’s before the tag is placed on the front page and your visitors will have to click on the link it’ll make to read teh rest of the post.
Hope this helps,

(1) If you are using the visual rich text editor then icon number to use is #13 and you use it wherever you want the text break to occur.
(2) If you are using the standard editor click the [more] button wherever you want the text break to occur.
(3) If you are hand coding type in <!–more–> wherever you want the text break to occur.
(4) If you do not like the text that the theme is hardcoded to provide when you use the more tag you can change it by hand coding in
<!–more your text goes here more!–> -

What if I want to have the most recent port in FULL on the front page, and then say 9 other posts in summary?
I’ve done this on a WP blog I set up a couple of years ago and now I don’t remember how I achieved it.
Can any one point me in the right direct.
Thanks,

The only way to do that at a WordPress.com blog is to manually insert the More tag in your last post every time you make a new one, and have the blog in a template that displays the whole post normally.

Well, there is the Fadtastic theme. It displays only one full post on the front page. Below that it displays only linked post titles.
However, aside from that, as raincoaster says the “summary” posts you refer to would have to have the more tag inserted into each one. This, of course, is not a big deal — you click one button where you want the text to break.
