karuna background color issue (reposted in correct forum)

  • Unknown's avatar

    hi i’m testing out the new theme karuna (on my private site before i activate it on my regular/public blog).

    when i change the background color to basic white some of the widgets in the footer area partially disappear – mainly the buttons.

    for ex. the “follow blog” widget doesn’t show the “follow button”

    but even if i use some of the default color palette options (making no changes at all) the “follow blog” button still doesn’t show. this happens specifically in the top three palette options.

    the middle option, sorta turquoise, is the one that disappears if you change the background to white.

    has anyone else noticed this?

    – thanks

    (this was also posted in the general support forums by mistake)

    Hi @indianmacgyver,

    Thank you for the report! I was able to replicate and have passed the report back to the theme’s author.

    Please don’t hesitate to let us know if questions come up while we wait to hear back.

    thanks for the update @siobhyb

    i went ahead and activated the theme so if i come across anything i’ll reply back here or post another comment.

    quick question, will the theme demo be adding a style guide page like this one here?

    again thanks.

    There isn’t a plan to add a style guide page to Karuna’s demo site.

    You can get an idea of the different styles from the dummy content that’s in place on the demo and can also experiment on a private test page on your own site, if you wish to.

    Let me know if that’s helpful or if you have any extra questions.

    @siobhyb thanks,

    i was hoping for the style guide to check some things not showing up in the dummy content – specifically the “blockquote” look.

    the blockquote in karuna is somewhat plain, especially compared to the overall look of the theme, and i wasn’t sure if it was supposed to look that way is all.

    alright as always thanks again for the updates!

    Ah, I see! Blockquotes in Karuna do have a slightly different font style but the styling is subtle compared to some themes.

  • Unknown's avatar

    yes, subtle is the better word for it (sorry about the earlier use of ‘plain’)!

  • Hello!

    Thanks for reporting the issue with the button contrast in the footer area of Karuna!

    We’ve deployed a fix so buttons should display properly in the footer area with any colour palette.

    Please let us know if you have any questions about this, or if you run into any other issues.

    Thanks!

    @laurelfulford

    thanks for the update. i’ve put in the “follow” widget and used the button class link as well and both seem to be working properly!

    i noticed some weird quirks recently and am not sure what’s caused it. right now my posts page is full width, pushing the sidebar widget to the bottom of the page.

    also the full width footer is not showing properly – the widget’s title looks like it’s part of another widget. what’s weirder is, this is the same widget on my front page and it shows correctly there. in other words the same widget in the full width footer appears differently on my front page and posts page.

    lastly, the “show older posts” button used to appear at the bottom of the posts page but now it shows up immediately under the most recent post.

    here’s the posts page, if you need to see what i mean.

    all 3 of these quirks started in the last few days. if it’s user error on my part please let me know (but i haven’t made any changes to speak of).

    thanks – and if i was supposed to create a new post please let me know and i’ll do that.

    PS these issues show in both chrome and safari, and on various screen sizes including mobile screens.

  • Looks like there’s a stray closing div tag in your most recent post. If you switch to HTML/Text view and go to the end of the post, you’ll see this:

    </div>

    Try removing it and let me know if that solves the issue.

    @kathrynwp

    i didn’t remove the closing div tag, instead i added the missing opening div tag. but nonetheless, your tip worked like a charm! thanks

    the post page looks normal again. i didn’t know html in the post editor could effect the theme’s basic structure.

    can you explain how the errant closing tag (or missing opening tag) effected the posts page in such a weird way?

    – cheers

    Hi @indianmacgyver,

    Every single HTML opening tag has to be paired with a closing tag.

    This is in addition to the fact that the content (including HTML) that you add to a post’s editor is loaded along with the the rest of the theme’s HTML/CSS in your browser.

    As you had an extra closing tag in your post’s content, it was being paired with an opening tag from earlier on in the theme’s HTML. This then caused big changes to the structure and layout of your site.

    Let me know if that’s clear. I’ll be happy to clarify further if you have any extra questions.

    @siobhyb

    that’s clear enough for me!

    i never imagined my content code effected the theme’s code. i assumed the theme’s code was basically “locked” and the stuff i did fit in a “box” for lack of a better word.

    but it’s pretty cool to know my code gets down and dirty with real code – i feel appropriately tech savvy now.

    I’m glad that’s clear now, @indianmacgyver. :)
