Karuna Theme Displaying Videos Wrong

    Help! It’s been two days now, and I can’t figure out how to fix this issue. Videos are displaying in a square format instead of the standard format on the Karuna theme on my blog. I’ve tried using the shortcode to no effect, leading me to believe it’s a theme change that caused it, but I’m not entirely sure…

    Howdy –

    The sidebars in this theme will dictate the size (width) of the content displayed. Take a look through the setup instructions and the different page templates.

    Here’s an example: https://karunademo.wordpress.com/blog/

    Check out the page template section on the theme set up instructions:
    https://wordpress.com/theme/karuna

    You’ll need the full width option to maximize the content width.

    I’m not trying to maximize the content width. I want the right sidebar, with my YouTube videos to display the proper 16:9 aspect ratio, with a width of 624px. Currently they’re displaying in a 1:1 (square) aspect ratio. I’m just trying to get them back to normal.

    Everything was working fine until mid-last week when it inexplicably changed.

    Hi there,

    Are you trying this while using the classic editor or the block editor? There are a few other themes that are having similar issues and we have reported it internally. However, there has been success with inserting 16:9 YouTube videos when using the block editor.

    I tested it using the Karuna theme with success, so let me know. Thanks!

    Well, that’s certainly the problem. I’ve been using the Classic Editor, and after using the Block Editor it posted fine. I then tried converting my older post to blocks, and it fixed the issue.

    Would there be a way to quickly and easily convert older posts to blocks? I have over 1,500 posts with a good chunk of them featuring videos… :S

    We don’t have a tool that does that. But now that we know the problem we’ll be working on a fix, and we’ll update you when we’ve got more info. Cheers!

    In the meantime I have converted to the Block Editor (not by choice *grumbles* lol).

    Hey there,

    When not working on YouTube videos, you can switch back to the classic editor by clicking on the three dots (next to the cog icon) at the top of the post or page editor and selecting “Switch to Classic Editor”.
