You can update categories in your WP Admin Dashboard; you can access this by adding /wp-admin/ to the end of your website address. For example, http://hawksforest.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
You can then edit categories under Posts -> Categories in your dashboard. Move your mouse over a category and several options will appear that allow you to edit, quick-edit, or delete that category.

Hello. Thank you for the answer but it does not work. Nothing appears when I move my mouse over to a category neither are there any options.

Are you looking at the categories on your WP Admin page? The URL should be something like this (you can open this link in a browser): https://vanessacanavans.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category
If that still doesn’t work, while you are on that page, try clicking on the category name that you want to change. That should open a new screen where you can update the category name and then click Update to save your changes.
Hopefully, that will work for you.

WordAds and is for sites on their own custom domains that have enough traffic to qualify for acceptance into the plan.

No upgrade is required to post affiliate links. Blogger initiated third party advertising is not allowed at WordPress.COM. Affiliate links are allowed on WordPress.com as long as the primary purpose of your blog is to create original content.
