Keep content but change WP domain name to new WP domain name

    Hi,

    I’d like to change the domain name that I purchased through wordpress (irregularvoice.com) to a new domain name.

    Essentially, I want the site to remain exactly the same, but with a brand new domain name. I’m happy to buy it through WordPress again.

    How can I do this without losing any of my content?

    Would it be easier to start a new WP blog, buy a new domain name, and migrate content over (I’m not remotely techy so to do this so I’d have to get someone else to do it for me)?

    Or is there another simple way to sort this? Please advise.

    Hi there,
    You can transfer an upgrade from one blog to another blog as long as both blogs are on the same account, as explained here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#transferring-upgrades

    Howdy,

    To make sure we’re on the same page, you wish to keep all of the content on your current site, only have a new domain (e.g. http://example.com), pointing to it. Correct?

    It isn’t possible to change or “rename” a domain name, in and of itself. You can purchase a new domain name or map an existing domain name by visiting the Store->Domains link in your site’s dashboard, as well as set the new domain to be “primary”.

    Your primary domain is what users will see in their browser’s address bar, but all domains listed in your Store->Domains page will work for your site.

    With the way domains work, for your old domain, simply don’t renew it when you’re ready to no longer use it.
