Keep existing free wordpress site while building a paid one
-
I have today purchased a business plan to build a primary site, while still wanting to keep my initial free wordpress site active while this is being done. I thought I could purchase the plan and alocate a new site to this, instead this plan has been automatically transferred to the free wordpress site. How can I swap the paid plan to a new site that I wish to fully customize with purchased themes and plug ins.

Hi there!
I see that you already canceled the Business plan. Your site is now on the free plan, but it’s not yet properly reverted. I can revert the site back to the free plan. In this process, anything you added to your site after upgrading to the Business plan will be removed. Would you like me to proceed?
As for creating your new site with the Business plan, you can go to this link and Get Business. That will prompt you to create a new site with the Business plan.
Feel free to let us know if you have more questions.

Hi aisajib.
Yes, I’ve reverted back to free site as I figured out that I needed to cancel that business plan in order to create a custom built one, and keep the free going in the background. I was waiting until I recived the refund, which has gone through, yet now I see there’s another issue with being able to transfer or connect my existing domain, as this ends in .com.au . I have a second domain (not yet attached to a hosting service nor web provider) and this simply ends in .au (no .com before it) – Will I be able to connect this domain to a wordpress site?

You can connect both your “.com.au” and “.au” domains! They can’t be transferred here – meaning that their registrations would need to stay with your current provider and you’d be renewing the domains with them, but you can absolutely use them on WordPress.com.
We do have a general guide for connecting a domain, for when you’re at that stage:

As far as I’m aware there were no plugin’s installed when I created the free site. I just used one of the templates that was available. how do i know if there’s plug ins since added?

Hi @twilleryevents, you can tell whether a site has extra plugins or not by going here:
https://wordpress.com/plugins/
If you see an “Installed Plugins” button in the upper right, you can click that to manage them. If it just says Upload, the site doesn’t have additional plugins yet. Does that help?
Also: if you’re using the Business Plan for your site, you’ve got a few nice perks that could come in handy:
- On Business Plans, we now have a staging site option. That lets you keep your site live while you (or your devs) work on a staging version. We have more details on that here, but it sounds like that’s what you intended to do. I hope that helps going forward!
- Also, your business plan does come with direct support if you’d like it! You can access chat here under Contact Support, or you’re welcome to work with our forums community or email support as you like.
Let us know how we can help!
