keep site on host or move to wordpress?
-
I have a website hosted on a server. I want to be able to edit content easily on my own. Can someone help me understand the pluses and minuses between the site continuing to reside on a reg host and hiring someone to add a cms, or finding someone to switch my site to wordpress and run it on wp where it is easy to change content?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

First, you have to understand the different possibilities you have:
- You can keep your site on your server, and start using a CMS like WordPress, self hosted version. Then you migrate your content to WordPress. While you might prefer to hire somebody to help you though this process, you must know that WordPress was designed to be easy to install and maintained. The import of your content however can be more difficult, depending on what you use today. Once it is done, you will have total control over your website and will be able to install plugins and themes easily. However you will have to deal with the maintenance.
- You can decide to switch to switch to WordPress.com, the hosted version of WordPress, and while you won’t have to deal with the installation of WordPress, you will have to export your content from your old system and import it to WordPress.com. Once the import is done, you’re good to go. While you will not be able to use external plugins, WordPress.com deals with everything else for you, no more maintenance or updates to do.
You can find more information about the differences between WordPress.ORG and WordPress.COM:http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Unfortunately we can’t tell you how easy the migration will be, because that depends entirely of your current situation: could you tell us what system do you use for your content today, how do you edit and update content? Can you give us the URL of your site?
