Hi there,
If you set up Jetpack on your new WordPress.org site and connect it to WordPress.com, we can transfer all of your followers for you. We have more information about that here: Moving Your Subscribers
Please let me know if you have any questions about that! :)

Thank you. One more question. I’ve heard that I can take my email clients but not my clients following me through their WP reader. Is that right?
Will I lose my visitor stats?
-
Both your email and WordPress.com Reader followers will be transferred. However, WordPress.com followers will only receive updates via the Reader — if they want to get email updates, they will need to sign up for those again on your new site.
If you export the content from your WordPress.com site and import it into your WordPress.org site, we can also transfer your visitor stats for you. (The stats will only transfer correctly if you also transfer your content that way.) If you do that, just remind us to transfer both your followers and stats once you’re ready!
Let me know if you have any other questions. :)

still deciding whether to switch. biggest concern is that I will probably have to hire someone to mamage the technical stuff that is just built in to wordpress.com.
A big decision point now hinges on this:
the way comments are displayed. using Reddle theme. Comments are not visible until the little box is pressed. Is that a settings issue, where I can make them visible? -
Hi there,
Switching to a self-hosted WordPress.org site does mean a bit more work and responsibility for the technical side of things. It’s really up to you! :)
the way comments are displayed. using Reddle theme. Comments are not visible until the little box is pressed. Is that a settings issue, where I can make them visible?
All themes at WordPress.com will hide comments on the main blog page and show them on the single post pages. (In other words, if you click the post title to view the post on its own page, you’ll see the comments on that page.) That is how the themes are built, so there isn’t a setting to change how that works.
I hope this helps. Good luck with your decision, and let me know I can help further. :)
