Keeping customisations transferring site from .org to wordpress.com

I have a wordpress installation on my own hosting, from wordpress.org

There are security issues with it and downtime. Brute-force attack causing problems at the moment.

I’m wondering if it would be better to have the site hosted by wordpress.com

Thing is, I have lots of customisations that I want to keep. Is it possible to transfer all that over to a site on wordpress.org ?

  • Hello

Most customizations will not carry over to WordPress.com.

To start with, you’ll need to select a WordPress.com compatible theme from the list at https://wordpress.com/themes/.

If you are using an existing WordPress.com theme, for example, twenty-sixteen, and have made only minor CSS edits, then it is possible to transfer those edits over. But, if you have a custom child theme with edits to other .php files, then those will not transfer over.

Also, it’s important to understand that you can not install your own plugins on WordPress.com. There are quite a few features that are included, but not everything.

If you have a lot of customizations, you may be best served by finding a new, more secure web hosting company.

    Hope this helps!
