Keeping my sub-domain name
-
If I used a separate host for my WordPress blog can I keep my regular url address – mysite.wordpress.com? Or will WordPress prohibit me from keeping that same sub-domain name?
-
If you have a hosted blog with software downloaded from wordpress.org then you can import the contents of your wordpress.com blog into it. And you can place text widget in it directing readers to your new site. However, you will be running on different software and wordpress.com will not be your host so that means you cannot keep “mysite.wordpress.com” .
-
My understanding is that staff don’t want people to use their wordpress.com blog to generate traffic to their ‘other hosted’ blog. Since only wordpress.com hosted blogs have that address, your new site would have to have a different URL.

someone do a search for domain mapping. we did this with my blog. cant do search. ill explain tomorrow if needbe.

nah i described it. get domain mapping, map to domain instead of wp.com url, wait a few days fo it to filter through net and then move domain while leaving wp.ocm url pointed there. have to check every so often though as it gets reset like editor choice though.
