keeping old site until publishing new site

  Hi, We have a website http://www.caci-international.co.uk. We want to swap to a WordPress site, so I want to build it, but keep our old site running until ready to publish (but with same domain) is this possible? If I start working on new workers site with same domain is this going to effect my current website?!

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  An easier description of problem above…hopefully!

  If I create a new WordPress Site with the same domain as my current website (Non-Wordpress/hosted elsewhere) is this going to effect my current website before I publish the new WordPress site?
