Keeping the Same URL for New Docs

Is there a way to upload a new document to the Media page without having to manually change the hyperlink of the the objects that point to it? I even tried deleting the old document from the Media page and uploading the updated document with the same file name, but it still creates a new unique url, forcing me to still update all of the hyperlinks manually. Is there a workaround?

  • Hello there,

My name is Adam and I’m a Happiness Engineer with WordPress.com.

Is there a way to upload a new document to the Media page without having to manually change the hyperlink of the the objects that point to it?

    That wouldn’t be possible.

How many links need to change and where exactly? Perhaps we can offer some insights and/or shortcuts?

Currently we are manually changing the urls for all the documents in out 8 o’clock reports subpage daily. If we could keep the same url for each document this could be avoided. But when we upload a new document, it automatically creates a unique url, even if we delete the old document… so then we have to go change all of our hyperlinks manually, and on occasion people mess up this process. It seems like this could be an easy fix, just not sure how.

  • If it has to be a document file, as opposed to text on the site that you could update each day, you’ll need to replace the link when you upload the file.

An alternative may be creating a Google Drive link (or similar), include one link to that, and then update the files in that folder each day.
