keeping the site private

  hello
  i was checking the settings in order to find a way to keep the content but remove the site from public or people will have to have verify with my approval, but i didnt find anyway to do that
  can u help me on this? can it b done or just delete is the only way?

  ‘Site Visibility’
  and then choose the option
  ‘I would like my site to be private, visible only to myself and users I choose’
