Keeps going back to a blog
-
I just want to set up a website, not a blog. I go in and create an array of menu items: home, contact, events, books, appearances, etc. But then the site takes me back to a screen that shows only three menu items, Home, Blog, and Contact, including the images I put on Home and Contact. What is this site (really just a blog) it keeps forcing me back to after I do all the work of setting up multiple pages? Also, this is the second time I have sent this request–last time it said I should hear in an hour or so, three days later, nothing, and I can’t find my post anywhere in my account. Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello,
I am sorry that you did not get a reply to your last post, but I will try to help you out here.
Hello,
After you created a menu, did you assign it to the desired location?
You can assign a menu the location (in case of your theme, Primary and Social location) during the menu creation or edit: https://prnt.sc/mh9fqp
or after you finish in the Menu Locations, like I am showing you in the video:
https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cqn1iI3EHfMore on the navigation menus here:
Can you explain further how the website is forcing you to create the pages again?
Did you create the pages before assigning them to the navigation menu?
https://prnt.sc/mh9q5eTo answer your blog vs site question, the blog is a type of website. The website is anything you visit on the internet, like WordPress.com or pjpiccirillo.wordpress.com and essentially the content of that website is deciding if the website is being called ‘Blog’ or ‘Shop’ or something else.
I hope this helps.

Hey there, it looks like this is the first time you’ve posted in our community forums under this username https://en.forums.wordpress.com/users/pjp264/
After you publish those pages, you need to adjust your theme’s menu to display them. You can do that in the Customizer following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
Here’s more on getting the most out of your theme, Radcliffe 2 https://wordpress.com/theme/radcliffe-2

No problem @justjennifer,
Your answer had some info mine did not,
so you helped me as well :) -
I guess the distinction I don’t understand is between mywebsite, which is all I want to be building and all I really need to see, and this screen of “Site pages,” which looks like my the website I am building but has just the three menu items I mentioned, yet photos I had inserted into my custom menu items in what I just want to be my website. I can’t even figure out how to move over from those “site pages” screens to see my site again, so I have two windows open all the time, one on the page I’m trying to develop because I’m afraid I will lose it–I keep myself signed in until I can figure this out. None of this seems intuitive.
I have no idea what Site Pages even has to do with my site. When I choose “View Site” in Site Pages, all I get is this “site” with the three menu links, not the custom menus I built in the other screen. Most ironic is that the title of this page is “My Site” and it’s not even the site I built. I don’t even want a blog on my site.
This is just so confusing. I have heard that other services are much simpler for someone like me, who has no interest in being a webmaster, to use. But as far as I can find in all my web searching, none have the ability to use a free domain as simple as PJPiccirillo.wordpress.com. If you know of another service where I just build a website and not have this confusing My Site with three fixed menus, PLEASE let me know. I just need a URL that is my name and whatever extension, AND FREE.
I would drop in some screen captures to better explain this, but again, this WordPress is so unintuitive I don’t see any way of doing that. I can’t even figure out how to tag the person I am responding to here (skipcz…..)
BTW, yes, my menus are set to Primary, though the screen I see that setting on looks different from the captures you sent. Couldn’t make out the video.
Thanks

Now all my menu pages are gone and all I have are “site pages” of home, blog and contact. I can’t even find a link to menus.

Hello again, OK, then let’s take adding menu items one step at a time.
1. Is https://pjpiccirillo.wordpress.com/ the site you are working on?
Yes/No
2. If #1 is no, what is the address of the site?If #1 is
yes, let’s continue:
3. Have you published the Pages: events, books, appearances,etc.?Yes/No
4. If #3 is no, here’s how to create and publish a Page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/NOTE: ONLY PUBLISHED PAGES CAN BE ADDED TO YOUR SITE MENU
5. If #3 is yes or after you publish your additional Pages, then, with ONLY one tab/browser window open, navigate to MY SITES>Customize https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/
6. Expand/Open the Menu tab in the left sidebar (screenshot)
7. If there is no Menu for the Header position, you will need to Create a New Menu by following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#1-create-a-custom-menu (screenshot)
8. If you already have a Menu in the Header position, or after you have created your New Menu, then you will want to ADD your other published Pages (Books, Events, etc.) to the menu by clicking on the PLUS sign next to each title: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#2-add-menu-items (screenshot)
9. When your pages appear on the left side of the Menu screen, you can then rearrange them by clicking the REORDER link and clicking the up and down icons until you have them arranged as you want them to appear. (screenshot)
10. Lastly, and most importantly, you MUST click the PUBLISH BUTTON at the very top of the Customizer screen in order for your changes to go live on your site. If your button says anything other than PUBLISH, click on the Gear Icon and change the setting to read PUBLISH (screenshot)
I hope the above helps you in getting you where you want to go, but if it doesn’t please post back here.
