Kelly Theme Banner CSS modification

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I’ve signed up for the 14 day free trial of the Premium upgrade and have already been able to change the colours of the header/links/footer areas to suit, but I am am having difficulty in getting the site logo at the top of the page displaying correctly.

Please can you help me do this?

I’m completely new to wordpress and know nothing about CSS and need help quickly (before Wednesday 29th April) to modify the banner (site logo) of the blog “https://whoamidiscovery.wordpress.com” so that the whole logo I have uploaded is displayed above the Menu bar, and also that the logo isn’t ‘covered’ or overlayed with the Kelly Theme shaded area.

    Regards,

    Ashleigh

    Hey there, Ashleigh,

The Kelly theme is built for that semi-transparent menu to overlap the bottom of your header image.

Notice it does that in the demo, too:
    https://kellydemo.wordpress.com/

Also, just so you’re aware, your theme recommends a header size of 1200 × 250 pixels. If yours is larger, you may have some conflicts.

However, it’s possible we can adjust that banner height with CSS…can you tell me the dimensions of your banner image? I need the exact height, so I’m able to troubleshoot this for you.

    Thanks so much!

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Its exactly that semi-transparent menu overlap I don’t want hiding my banner.
Please can you tell me if the theme can be modified to show the banner without being hidden? I want the NAV menu where it is, just not the semi-transparent bit covering my banner.

If that is not possible, is there a similar theme to Kelly (same fonts, Nav layout etc, just without the semi-transparent menu

I had uploaded what I thought was an image size matching the Kelly Theme, ie 1200×250, however the banner doesnt display the bottom of the logo. I do need to upload an updated image which I will do shortly.

I appreciate your help as I need to fix this by tomorrow at the latest.

    Regards,

    Ashleigh

    Hey Ashleigh,

Since you are under pressure to finish the site by a specific date, I’m going to give you some other theme options that are free like Kelly, and have similar attributes:

    https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/plane/
    https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/highwind/
    https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/suits/
    https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/coherent/

See if those suit you better. If not, you can certain peruse the themes showcase for more:
    https://wordpress.com/themes

In your current theme, the menu will overlap on Kelly without many CSS revisions. Even then, you might find that those tweaks change the way other items on your site are displayed. You can certainly address your concerns in the CSS forum:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization

But, your most expedient choice will be moving to another, similar theme that suits you completely.

    Thanks again!

    Hi,

I’m confused then by the statement for the Premium upgrade which says I can modify the appearance of my site to how I want it to look!

Time has now run out so I am disappointed that it has not been possible to fix this. I will consult with the forums to see if anyone has been able to do this already.

    Hey there!

I’m confused then by the statement for the Premium upgrade which says I can modify the appearance of my site to how I want it to look!

You can indeed change the appearance…however, you do need to do that with code if the existing choices in the Colors/Background/etc tabs don’t cover all your bases.

A benefit of the Premium upgrade is that you do have access to your theme’s CSS code, and you can revise it. This isn’t available without the upgrade.

The CSS forum can help, or…for more detailed instruction on how you can make CSS adjustments on your own, take a look at these two links:

    Thanks again.
