Kenya is approved by Paypal why has WordPress blocked payments.
-
Hi all,
Kenya appears in Paypal’s list of approved countries here https://www.paypal.com/worldwide/ yet WordPress.com will not let us make payments using Paypal. Why is this?I have made an payment with Paypal from Kenya in the last 10 minutes to a domain registrar based in the United States. This suggests the problem is not on Paypal’s side but on WordPress.com’s side.
Previously I have been able to purchase upgrades to my account on WordPress.com from Kenya with no problem.
When will WordPress.com accept payments from Kenya again (as Paypal is already processing payments from Kenya).
Thanks

WordPress.com uses PayPal as the payment processor, and as such, can only accept payment from countries they support: https://www.paypal.com/worldwide/
If for whatever reason, they have chosen to block payment from
your country, you will not be able to purchase an upgrade here unless you have a source of payment outside of it.In addition to major credit cards Mastercard, VISA, American Express, Discover, and PayPal https://www.paypal.com/worldwide/ WordPress.com can accept echecks and some debit cards.
The debit card must have a VISA or Mastercard symbol on it, and should work just like a credit card when selecting the VISA or Mastercard option on the payment form, even though it’s a debit card.
More about echecks here:

Timethief, thank you for your response (and your responses on many other topics touching on this issue). However, I have gone out of my way to demonstrate that Kenya IS supported by Paypal. Kenya is on the webpage you post https://www.paypal.com/worldwide/. I suggest you look at the page. You will see Kenya is there.
As I also mentioned. I have been able to make a Paypal payment from Kenya in the last couple of minutes. Therefore, I think it is wrong to say Paypal have blocked payments from Kenya. They have not. What could be the case is that Paypal have blocked payments to WordPress.com from Kenya. Now that would be strange. Why would Paypal block payments from Kenya from only one website?
This is why I suggest that the problem maybe on WordPress.com’s side not on Paypal’s side.
The second post you mention is irrelevant. This is NOT about M-Pesa or any other payment option not currently offered. This is about Paypal and WordPress.com.
Thanks

Whether or not Kenya is supported by Paypal is not relevant to whether or not WordPress.com chooses to deal with Paypal accounts from Kenya. Clearly they have not chosen to do so. Many other countries are in the same position. I suggest that you purchase a prepaid credit card from a country WP.com does accept payment from, and use that.

Thanks Kraftbj, I had not seen that Paypal developer API country list before. Mystery solved. I hope Paypal include Kenya in their next update.

Us too! I sent you a note via e-mail to the address listed on your account as well.
Cheers!
