Keyboard focus not moving to main content after clicking “Read more” links
-
Hello,
I’m experiencing an accessibility issue related to keyboard focus management when navigating posts. Issue description
On archive or category pages that list multiple posts, each item includes a “Read more” link. When navigating using only the keyboard:
- Focus moves correctly to the “Read more” link
- Pressing Enter loads the single post
- Keyboard focus does not move to the main content or page heading
- Keyboard and screen reader users must manually find the content
This affects keyboard-only users and screen reader users. Example
I can observe this behavior on a content-based WordPress site here:
https://thecupcut.com/ Why this is an accessibility concernFrom a WCAG perspective (2.4.3 Focus Order / 2.4.7 Focus Visible), focus after navigation should land in a logical location such as the main
<h1>heading or the primary content area. QuestionOn WordPress.com, is there a recommended or built-in way to ensure keyboard focus moves to the main content after activating “Read more” links?
Any guidance or best practice would be appreciated.
Thank you.
