Keyword search ignores comments?
-
I make frequent use of comments to add details to my older articles so that readers are aware of the changes.
However, when I use the keyword search function to find material I covered in a comment, the search seems unable to find it. So my suggestions is: please make the search look at both postings and comments, if possible.I’m using the default theme. What I would also like to have is a timestamp in every post that not only shows when an article has been published but also when it has been changed the last time. Maybe even a sidebar widget that lists the lastest changed articles would be cool, too.
Thanks in advance. -
Actually there is a latest timestamp in the database. (ie ‘post_modified’) Probably be fairly easy to take the Latest Posts widget and rewrite it for that since it would be a simple replacement I would think.
I don’t think most bloggers go back and modify their posts though after they get posted except for spelling and whatnot.

I would also like to be able to search comments. Would be a nice addition for blogs that rely on comments from users.

@avlor
The blog linked to your username in this forum is not a wordpress.com blog. This is evident to me because it lacks the blue navigation bar at the top of it.
If you are asking questions about a wordpress.org blog then your need to ask them over here at http://wordpress.org/support this is because the two run on different software. -
@Jaroche
I didn’t even see that before. Not quite as useful as having it on the front page for all the users of the blog. But better than nothing at this point.@timethief
That’s not the blog I was talking about. But thanks for trying to check it out. (/slaps own hand for forgetting to put in pertinent info) The one I have that I would love to see comments search in a widget or something like that for is http://horizonworld.wordpress.com/ I have a group that is just starting to use a blog instead of a forum and things have to be simple or they won’t use it (new wordpress users and used to one place for searches). Make more sense now? -
Is there a way to add a search function where readers can search the comments as we can in the back?
Thanks!

I’m sorry but the answer to your question is currently the search function on wordpress.com blogs only applies only to post content and not to content on pages or in comments.
Support is closed on weekends and only urgent matters are dealt with. You can however request this during the week by sending in a feedback to staff. -
Best bet would be to submit this suggestion via feedback on Monday. Currently the search system only searches the post content.

Incidentally, you could also consider updating weblog posts by editing the post, writing “Update:”, and then the new material. That way people will see it even if they don’t read all the comments. That’s what I often do on my weblog.

Best bet would be to send in feedback from your dashboard and make aware that this is a feature that you would like to see.
