Kill switch to take a site off line: Isn't there one?
-
I don’t see any info on a “Main Switch” for a site that one has created. I have a lot of work to do to prepare a new site and would prefer not to make it “LIVE” until I’m ready. Where’s the main On/Off switch ?? I’d like to use such a switch during maintenance, too.
I’ve looked & looked & looked & looked and don’t see such a switch.
Please tell me there is one!

There is no such swotch on a free hosted WordPress.com blog. Try privacy settings > http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/ You can make the blog visibility private temprarily.

Thanks Timethief. Actually, last night, I noticed the privacy settings you speak of and tried to hide stuff from myself (the site is so new and obscure, I doubt anyone would know how to find it). Anyhow, nothing was blocked or masked from my view. I was underwhelmed w/ the functionality.
Beyond that, I’m guessing from your comment that a not-for-free site would have a kill switch?

If you are logged-into WordPress.com and or you did not clear your browser cache and cookies then of course the blog would appear to you. You are viewing a cached version. Neither WordPress.com free hosted blogs nor WordPress.org self hosted installs have such a “kill stwitch”.

- Can anyone speak to this:
I posed a couple other questions and, after I clicked Submit, a message appeared from Admin saying this topic has been closed to further replies.
Very strange.
When I went back out to the list of posts, for the couple I am referring to, instead of listing me as poster, it lists Admin. Stranger, when I open the post it says that it’s been closed – no explanation.
