Kubrick Fonts

    I use KUBRICK http://www.fennelseed.wordpress.com
and am trying to identify the name of the theme’s default font? Also, are there are other fonts available for free use with KUBRICK?
(I know that I can upgrade to Typefit for $30 per year — and have access to a variety of fonts)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This is the font stack declared in the CSS in Kubrick.

    'Lucida Grande',Verdana,Arial,Sans-Serif

The way font stacks work is the browser will try and pull the first font from the user’s computer and if that one is not available, it will try the second, then the third. The last one, Sans-Serif, is the standard sans-serif font built into the browsers and that one will be used if the others are not installed on the user’s computer..

Thank you SACRED PATH. I have a lot to learn regarding WordPress.
At least, I now know that CSS = Cascading Style Sheets, via http://codex.wordpress.org/CSS

I looked in the Font Library of my Macbook Pro Lion … did not find Lucida Grande nor Verdana BUT did find Arial.
Does “Sans-Serif” refer to a particular kind of sans-serif?

San-Serif is a font built into browsers (Arial/Helvetica-like). There is also a “Serif” font (Times-like). Those two fonts are the last stand if none of the other fonts are installed on the user’s computer.

It’s strange that your Macbook Pro does not have Verdana. That font, as far as I know has been included on Macs for many years, and I was also thinking Lucida Grande was too. I know both are on my MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard.

I looked again in my Macbook Pro library and this time around, I did find VERDANA.
There are 9 LUCIDA fonts but no LUCIDA GRANDE.

I compared my wordpress blog text to the font illustrations in the Library —
and it seems to me that my Macbook Pro is printing with LUCIDA SANS. It’s definitely not VERDANA.

Thanks again Sacred Path for educating me about CSS.

You are welcome. I may have purchased Lucida Grande at some point when I was doing a lot of graphic design and page layout, I can’t remember, so there is a possibility that it is not a standard font included on Macs.

Both Lucida Grande and Verdana are standard fonts and there’s no way your Mac doesn’t have them: you probably didn’t check the right folder.
Verdana can be found in HD > Library > Fonts > Microsoft, and Lucida Grande can be found in HD > System > Library > Fonts.
But it’s easier to check which fonts you’ve got via Text Edit or another text editor.
