Kubrick Theme vs Video?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have two blogs. One for photos and one for videos. I would like them both to look the same. I am currently using the Kubrick theme with a custom header. My issue is that I want to display larger videos on the video blog than is allowed with the fixed width of that particular theme. Is there a way with the custom CSS feature to move the menu items on the right(archive, categories, etc)somewhere else where I could create a wider column to show larger videos? I want to show videos at 600px. Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Is this the blog – or one of them – that you are talking about http://kinglawrence.wordpress.com/ ? If so, always provide a link to the blog since first off we need to make sure you are in the right forum, and secondly we typically need to take a look at the blog in order to help.

My suggestion would be to switch to a different theme. Kubrick is a mess from a CSS and layout standpoint and requires you to make new .gif background images (about 6 or 7 as I remember) in a program such as Photoshop in order to be able to make the post area wider. It is a serious chunk of work.

K2 lite is actually the second generation Kubrick and is far easier to work with. The CSS is far better organized and not as much of a “junior-high school” metal shop project as Kubrick is.

Moving a sidebar to the bottom of the blog, as an example, is something that is quite difficult in any theme and requires a high level of CSS expertise to do it right.

One other thing I’ll throw out there is to remember that a good number of people on the internet are still using 1024 x 768 monitor resolutions which gives you a maximum usable browser window area of about 1000px in width.

Great info, thanks. I was wanting to change just the video blog to a wider post to show a larger video(kinglawrencevideo.wordpress.com) The reason I chose the Kubrick theme was because it was easy to keep consistent with my main site(www.kinglawrence.com) If you visit my main site you will see how simple it is with a lot of white space. I am looking for a solution to mirror that for both my photoblog and my video blog.

I don’t know how easy it would be to move the sidebar stuff down below the post area, and as I said, the entire background area for the post/sidebar area is a .gif file so a new one would have to be created in order to widen things and not have it look like garbage.

This is the current main background gif: http://s1.wordpress.com/wp-content/themes/default/images/kubrickbg.gif

This is the current footer background gif: http://s3.wordpress.com/wp-content/themes/default/images/kubrickfooter.gif
